Pray that this weekend is a time of fun, rest, and rejuvenation for those in North Carolina. And for those of us who are going on the retreat, please remember to pray for our church family gathering to worship back in Colonial Heights on Sunday morning at 10am. Specifically, please pray for Rev. Dr. Meredith Loftis as she shares a good word about Christ's parable's about the Kingdom of God.

April Session Summary and

First Quarter Financial Summary

Your Session met online for its monthly stated meeting at 5:30 on Monday, April 15th via Zoom. Items of interest included the scheduling of baptisms for Kaydence and Parker Wicker on April 28 and approval for the Campus Improvement Committee (CIC) to begin the selection process to partner with an architectural firm to develop a long term visionary document for our facilities. The Buildings and Facilities Committee noted that, during Holy Week, the office AC/Heat unit gave out after 22 years and was replaced at an expense of almost $11,000 dollars. Additionally, your Session will be offering communion to any homebound members of the congregation on Pentecost Sunday, May 19. If you, or someone you know, would appreciate receiving the sacrament, please contact Doris Fields (Elder for the Care Shepherds) or David Randolph (Pastor). The next Stated Session meeting will be held via Zoom on June 17, 2024 at 5:30 pm.

Midweek Prayer Gathering

The Spirit is moving on Wednesdays at CHPC with a weekly prayer gathering at 6:30pm. All are welcome to participate in this 30 minute intentional time of prayer and contemplation. Please contact Elder Donna Whitson if you would like to know more or get involved. Read from her below for a little peek into how impactful these meetings can be!

"Being in our prayer group brings an intensity to my Christian journey that grounds me. There is an honesty and a yearning there to seek after God's heart. There is the truth and confidence that God hears in our heartfelt prayers. There is a healing balm to my soul that our group is praying with and for us. We are always surprised when our 30 minute prayer meeting ends because the prayer conversation is so beautiful, rich, and meaningful to each of us. There is power in prayer!"

Congregational News

Sunday School classes resume after worship on Sunday, April 28 at 11:15am. Please reach out to any member of either adult classes to learn how you can participate in these meaningful conversations.

CHPC hosts Holston Camp and Retreat Center (HCRC) on Sunday, April 28, for their annual support dinner within Holston Presbytery. While the camp has seen many changes over the years, their main goal in ministry continues to be serving children and adults through an outdoor, faith-based setting. It all is embodied in their new camp tagline, "Sharing the Love of Christ, Living in God's Creation." HCRC is now a registered 501(c)(3) organization with its own Board in a covenant relationship with the Holston Presbytery and the churches in Avery County, North Carolina. This dinner helps to financially support their meaningful ministry and space is available for anyone from the church that wishes to attend. Please contact Mike Stricker or David Randolph to learn more.

The Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study will be reading the book "Lies My Preacher Told Me - An Honest Look at the Old Testament" by Brent A. Strawn. Extra copies are available for anyone who would like to join the discussion each Wednesday at 3pm in the parlor.

Do you know someone who desires to help the church make a joyful noise? As our own Carolyn Barry prepares to retire, CHPC is already looking for our next Choral Director. Please share this link here to the job ad to anyone you might know who should consider applying.

All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by end of business on Tuesday.
