Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers, and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

ReTreat Yourself 2024

It's the best "weekend" of the year!

For any fellow Parks and Recreation fans, you might remember Tom and Donna's best day of the year. It's called "Treat Yo Self" and I cannot stop thinking about it as our church family prepares to "ReTreat Yourself" next month!

Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church heads over to Holston Camp and Retreat Center in Banner Elk, NC from April 19 through 21 to pamper ourselves with moments of friendship, fellowship, and fun all weekend long. Want to take a hike? "ReTreat Yourself"! Want to play games in the dining hall? "ReTreat Yourself"! Want to binge watch one of the best television shows from the 2010s? "ReTreat Yourself"!!!

This annual time of rest and renewal is for everyone, whether you consider yourself a relaxation professional or not. Things kick off on Friday night with a simple devotional and conclude on Sunday morning after worship. Our theme for the weekend will be about parables that describe the Kingdom of Heaven. Overnight spots for adults cost between $100 to $150 depending upon accommodations and $50 for each child or youth. Day passes are available for $50 per adult and $25 per child to cover meals.

All are welcome, especially the Ben's of the world (like me) who need to take a sabbath every once in a while. Please contact the church office to sign up by April 14 if you are interested. And who knows, maybe someone will bring cupcakes to share!

Gratefully,

- David

This Sunday in Worship:

March 10, 2024 - Fourth Sunday in Lent

Anytime God makes a promise with God's people, the word used within the broader biblical narrative to describe this promise is called a covenant. Last week, we learned about God's covenant upon a mountaintop with Moses that named Israel to be God's chosen people. Israel is set a part to live in a way that celebrates God's commandments after being delivered from slavery in Egypt. Israel is to be holy because God is holy; and we are to remember because God remembers us.

This week, we learn more about the covenant made with King David as the God's promises shared through Israel's story continues...

Sunday's Scripture:

2 Samuel 6:1-5, NRSV

2 Samuel 7:1-14, NRSV

Sermon Title:

“Covenants & Promises -

The Crown"

The Season of Lent at CHPC

Our Wednesday evening Lenten Prayer Gatherings have been an impactful time of prayer. Thanks to everyone who has made it out so far. We invite you back next week and every Wednesday throughout this Lenten season. Please contact Elder Donna Whitson if you would like to know more or get involved.

And don't forget that our Lenten Suppers continue this Sunday!

For the next two of Sundays, CHPC continues to host a congregational supper and intergenerational bible study about the book of Jonah. All are welcomed to study the four chapters of this epic story over four weeks from 5 to 6:30pm. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program as well. This week, our CFL committee is graciously providing a meal for us and we will be discussing what happens to Jonah beyond being swallowed up in chapter three. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Mark Your Calendars for Holy Week

Children's Ministry Interest Meeting

Don't forget to mark your calendars for an important discussion about our church's ministry for our children. This is an opportunity for us as a church family to share some information about upcoming changes to our children’s programming, discuss exciting opportunities for our kids this year, and to collectively dream about what direction we would like the children’s ministry to take. We will meet Sunday after worship during the Sunday School hour on March 17 for discussion in the youth center. Hope to see you there!

Rise Against Hunger

CHPC has an opportunity to partner with Rise Against Hunger and do something about people around the world who are facing food shortages. Be sure to save the date on Sunday, August 25 to meet in the gym and package meals to help those in need. Our goal is to pack 16,750 meals in two hours.  This is an event that all ages can do together, adults and children alike.

The cost for this project is $7,000 in total and we need to raise another $4,000 to make this event happen. Please help us address hunger by giving a special donation to this project by Easter Sunday, March 31. You can write a check to the church and designate it for Rise Against Hunger. You may also give online via the website here. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus. Together, we can turn the tide against hunger and make a difference!
