Standing with Rise Against Hunger!
As you heard this past Sunday from Amylyn Crawford-Thorton, hunger relief is a cause close to all of our hearts. Our church family has an opportunity to stand with “Rise Against Hunger” and do something about people around the world in developing countries who are facing food shortages. Our mission is simple, yet profound. Each and every one of us in this church has the ability to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. That’s why I want to invite you to join me in supporting Rise Against Hunger.
My prayer is that we do this by going BIG! Our challenge is to pack 16,750 meals in two hours. This may sound a little scary, but I promise you it's not. This is an event that all ages can do together, adults and children alike. We will gather in the gym on Sunday, August 25 after a short service, to practice what we collectively preach by working together to package meals to help those in need. We will pour in rice and other food items, seal the bags, pack them in boxes, and load them onto a truck.
The cost for this project is $7,000. Since the church's support for the Cents-Ability offering has been beyond all expectations, Session approved using $3000 to begin this new effort while ensuring funds are available to support existing ministries like the Blessing Box or The Kitchen of Good Hope. Therefore, we are asking the Congregation to contribute the other $4000. I know we can do it, as a matter of fact, we think our church family can raise these funds over the next few weeks! Please help us address hunger by giving a special donation to this project by Easter Sunday, March 31. You can write a check to the church and designate it for Rise Against Hunger. You may also give online via the website here.
You don’t want to miss this event, please bring your families and friends to the Rising Against Hunger Sunday on August 25. Let’s be the “hands and feet” of Jesus together. Together, we can turn the tide against hunger. Together, we can make a difference.

This Sunday in Worship:
March 3, 2024 - Third Sunday in Lent
| |
|
Anytime God makes a promise with God's people, the word used within the broader biblical narrative to describe this promise is called a covenant. Last week, we learned about God's covenant with Abraham, whose descendants would outnumber the starts and be a blessing for all the world!
This week, our attention falls on a familiar mountaintop as we learn more with Moses and all Israel about God's law.

Don't forget that this week's worship service will include the celebration of communion, as we proclaim the Good News of God's promises and fidelity.
Sunday's Scripture:
1 Corinthians 1:18-25, NRSV
Exodus 20:1-17 NRSV
Sermon Title:
"Covenants & Promises:
The Mountaintop"

The Season of Lent at CHPC
Our Wednesday evening Lenten Prayer Gatherings have been an impactful time of prayer. Thanks to everyone who has made it out so far. We invite you back next week and every Wednesday throughout this Lenten season. Please contact Elder Donna Whitson if you would like to know more or get involved.
And don't forget that our Lenten Suppers continue this Sunday!
For the next three Sundays until March 17, CHPC will be hosting a congregational supper and intergenerational bible study about the book of Jonah on Sunday nights. All are welcomed to study the four chapters of this epic story over four weeks from 5 to 6:30pm. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program as well.
Please note that this Sunday, on March 3, we will be having a Soup & Chili Pot Luck. That Sunday night, please bring a crock pot of chili or soup OR bread and dessert to share with everyone. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Since the fall of 2021, Carolyn Barry has led our Choir Ministry with dedication and grace. Both personally and professionally she has been, and continues to be, an answer to my prayers. Carolyn is a thoughtful and talented musician who has worked hard with Tony, Doug, and our other musical leaders to show us what is possible within a musically blended service. While I am grateful for all her efforts, I also wish to support her as she steps down from her position later this Fall to participate in the choir again as a member.
Your Session has already appointed a Choral Director Search Committee to begin discerning who God is calling to serve as our next captain of the choir. I am grateful that Jean Fletcher, Gloria Stanford, Emily Hutchins, and Rob Wicker have agreed to serve in this meaningful way. Please hold them in prayer as their work begins soon and do share with them if you know someone this group should reach out to in order to apply. I am also happy to answer any questions about this search process or our musical ministry at CHPC. As we approach Carolyn's official retirement date this Fall, we will share with the congregation how we might give thanks for her ministry and celebrate her properly.
As the beloved hymn says:
“Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning, new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!”
Finding ourselves in a season of change, we are again encouraged that God's grace and provision remain constant. Great is God’s faithfulness indeed!
Gratefully,
- David

Children's Ministry Interest Meeting
Don't forget to mark your calendars for an important discussion about our church's ministry for our children. This meeting is open to everyone; parents, kids, volunteers, and anyone else who would like to attend and learn more about serving alongside others for our kids. This is an opportunity for us as a church family to share some information about upcoming changes to our children’s programming, discuss exciting opportunities for our kids this year, and to collectively dream about what direction we would like the children’s ministry to take. We will meet Sunday after worship during the Sunday School hour on March 17 for discussion in the youth center. Hope to see you there!

Volunteer Spotlight: CHPC's Marquee
|
Service is a central part of the communal life of faith at CHPC. It takes a village of volunteers to help make the various ministries of our church family happen week in and week out. If you are already volunteering in a meaningful way, THANK YOU!!! If you are looking for a new way to serve, check out how below as we share various opportunities throughout February.
This final week of the month, we want to highlight the church's marquee sign. Thousands of people drive by it regularly and see what is happening at CHPC. The Worship Committee now serves as the point person for this resource to plug what is happening in the life of our church family. Volunteers are needed to help change the sign one to two times a month. If you or someone you know would like to serve, please contact Elder KC Savage to learn more. Thank you for prayerfully considering where God is calling you to serve!

Sunday School classes continue after worship at 11:15am. Please reach out to any member of either adult classes to learn how you can jump into the conversation each week!
