Interest Meeting Supporting
The Children's Ministry at CHPC
| |
As the ministry to our children continues to grow and flourish, we would like to take the opportunity to host a special interest meeting for our Children’s Ministry. This meeting is open to everyone; parents, kids, volunteers, and anyone else who would like to attend and learn more about serving alongside others for our kids. This is an opportunity for us as a church family to share some information about upcoming changes to our children’s programming, discuss exciting opportunities for our children in the year ahead of us, and collectively dream about what direction we would like the children’s ministry to take. We will meet Sunday after worship during the Sunday School hour on March 17 for discussion in the youth center. Hope to see you there!
Grace and Peace,
-Tyler

This Sunday in Worship:
February 25, 2024 - Second Sunday in Lent
| |
Anytime God makes a promise with God's people, the word used within the broader biblical narrative to describe this promise is called a covenant. Last week, we learned about God's first covenant, made with Noah and enshrined in the rainbow in the sky. God will not abandon creation and God will never abandon us either! This week, we keep our attention skyward as we look to the stars and learn from Abraham's story about a chosen people.
Sunday's Scripture:
Romans 4:13-25, NRSV
Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 NRSV
Sermon Title:
"Covenants & Promises: The Stars"
| |

The Season of Lent at CHPC
Our Wednesday evening Lenten Prayer Gatherings began last night. Thanks to everyone who participated in this impactful time of prayer. We invite you back next week and every Wednesday throughout this Lenten season. Please contact Elder Donna Whitson if you would like to know more or get involved.
And don't forget that our Lenten Suppers begin this Sunday!
From February 25 through March 17, CHPC will be hosting a congregational supper and intergenerational bible study about the book of Jonah on Sunday nights. All are welcomed to study the four chapters of this epic story over four weeks from 5 to 6:30pm. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program as well.
Please note that on March 3, we will be having a Soup & Chili Pot Luck. That Sunday night, please bring a crock pot of chili or soup OR bread and dessert to share with everyone. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Your Session gathered for its stated meeting on Monday evening, February 19. Items of interest included the closing of CHPC’s financial books for 2023 by moving $7,009.43 from reserves to balance the year. Of note is the fact this deficit was projected at approximately $50K rather than the final $7K moved. Saturday, April 6, 2024 will be scheduled as a “Spring Cleaning” day at CHPC. Specific groups/individuals will be tasked with designating items currently stored throughout our campus as keep/donate/sell/throw away and others will be tasked with executing those labels. The next stated Session meeting is scheduled for Monday evening, March 18, 2024.
In Christ,
Clark Parker (Clerk) and David Randolph (Moderator)

Volunteer Spotlight: Delivering Beds
with Sleep In Heavenly Peace
| |
|
Service is a central part of the communal life of faith at CHPC. It takes a village of volunteers to help make the various ministries of our church family happen week in and week out. If you are already volunteering in a meaningful way, THANK YOU!!! If you are looking for a new way to serve, check out how below as we share various opportunities throughout February.
This week, we want to highlight our continued partnership with Sleep In Heavenly Peace. Their motto is “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in our Town”. They build and deliver about 150 beds every year right here in Sullivan County, and you can help! Another bed build will be announced soon, but we do have an opportunity this Sunday to deliver previously built beds to children in our community that don’t have a proper place to lay their heads at night. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer, please contact Elder Allen Booth to learn more. Thank you for prayerfully considering where God is calling you to serve!
