This Sunday in Worship

“Stories of Ruth” by John August Swanson

Our church family continues studying the Book of Ruth over the next three weeks as we reflect upon how God's Loving-Kindness, or "hesed", is all around us. This week's focus will be on chapter two as Ruth gleans in the field of Boaz after Ruth and Naomi have returned to Bethlehem.

Did you hear David's challenge to the church at the end of his sermon?

He asked the church to do three things this week:

Read the rest of the Book of Ruth. You're already a quarter of the way there!
Take note of where you see the light of God’s loving-kindness, or "hesed", shining as a core value within this story.
To carve out 20 minutes this week to intentionally pause and reflect upon all the ways you recognize God’s loving-kindness at work within your daily life.

Donations for the Blessing Box

The Missions Ministry Team is asking for donations to keep our Blessing Box full to support those in need. A full list of items may be found in the church office and any donations may be placed in basket for the Blessing Box in the Narthex. Your gifts will be a blessing to people in our community. Thank you for your willingness to help!

Troop 48 Continuous Campfire

and Food Drive

Join Troop 48 as they work to end hunger in our community with their second annual Continuous Campfire and Food Drive! The event begins Friday, February 10 at 4pm and ends Sunday, February 12 at 10am. Troop 48 will set up camp in CHPC’s parking lot where they will be retiring flags and collecting food item donations to help restock CHPC’s Blessing Box and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Unable to attend that weekend, but still want to contribute? You can still support the event by mailing a check to CHPC. Just write “food drive” in the memo line. Thank you for supporting this dedicated group of youth, and we hope you join us in this wonderful opportunity to help our local community!

Congregational News

All are welcome to share the Peace of Christ in the Parlor with coffee and fellowship before worship beginning at 9:30am. Hope to see you there!

Sunday School classes resume this week after worship at 11:15. The Remnant class will specifically be discussing the first two chapters of the book of Ruth. All are welcome!

The Youth Group will be meeting this Sunday for dinner and bible study from 5-6:30pm.

A worship service for Ash Wednesday will be celebrated at 6pm on Wednesday, February 22 in the Sanctuary.

An intergenerational education night about the Book of Ecclesiastes will be held at 4pm on Sunday, February 26 in the gym. The entire congregation is invited to participate in this special Bible study sponsored by the Women's Ministry as David leads us through this timely book of scripture together. Please contact Alda Smith for more details.

Mark your calendars for a special mission project with Sleep in Heavenly Peace on Sunday, March 12. All are welcome to enjoy a congregational lunch after worship before the build begins at noon. Please contact Allen Booth to learn more about this meaningful missional opportunity.

Save the Date for CHPC's Annual Churchwide Retreat at Holston Camp and Retreat Center the weekend of March 24 through the 26 in Banner Elk, NC. There will be plenty of fellowship and fun as we learn about a few lenten spiritual practices. With enough interest, the bus can be used to transport those who wish not to drive themselves. Please contact the church office if you already know you're interested in attending.
