This Week in Worship: Third Sunday of Advent

The Season of Advent continues this Sunday, December 17 at 10:00am with a special service of Lessons and Carols! Join us as we make a joyful noise in celebration for the gift of God's Word embodied in the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Thank you to our many volunteers and dedicated musical staff members who have worked so hard to make this festive service possible!

Also, don't forget that our church family will take the joy of Lessons and Carols on the road after worship! All are welcome to participate in this missional outreach to our community. Two teams of singers will visit various nursing facilities and the residences of some of our at-home members. Please be in the parking lot at 2:45pm so caravans can leave at 3:00pm.

Wish to worship with us again or during the week?

Upcoming Christmas Services

Supporting the Blessing Box on Christmas Eve

The Missions Ministry Team is asking for donations to keep our Blessing Box full to support those in need. All are encouraged to participate in this missional activity by choosing items from the following list and placing them in the boxes near the Chrismon Tree in the sanctuary on Christmas Eve. Your gifts will be a blessing to people in our community. Thank you for your willingness to help!

SMILE Angel Tree

Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church partners with SMILE (Simple Methods In Loving Everyone) Foster Closet of Northeast TN with an Angel Tree to support 10 foster children from Washington County. Thanks so much to everyone who picked an angel and brought back gifts for children! Don't forget that the tree's yellow angels represent specific items that SMILE needs to replenish their closet inventory and don't need to be returned until January 7.

Ringing in the New Year!

Have you ever wanted to celebrate New Years Eve with your church family but not stay out until past midnight? Well this year, we have just the event for you! We are doing something truly unique and celebrating New Years with our friends from across the pond! On December 31 from 6-8pm in the gym we will bet getting together, playing some games, enjoying some snacks, and at the stroke of midnight (in London, 7pm our time) we will be celebrating the New Year! Please bring your favorite snack to share and your favorite game!

Habitat for Humanity Women's Build

The Women's Ministry is sponsoring an outing on Wednesday, January 17 to join a Women's Build hosted by Holston Habitat for Humanity. This is a wonderful opportunity for women to work together and serve in their community. Volunteers will work under the guidance of construction professionals and alongside other volunteers to build a home for Chris, Christina, and their three children in Kingsport, TN.

Due to the activities planned for this date, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. To support Chris & Christina's building costs, there is a $25 Participation Donation. Women Build volunteers will receive a boxed lunch and a commemorative t-shirt. Any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join us! No experience is necessary.

Click below to sign up. If you plan on attending, contact Brenda Clark so you can join the carpooling from the church, as there is limited parking on site.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)

Relief Effort in Israel / Palestine

PDA seeks to find solutions to alleviate the human suffering happening in Gaza by supporting partners in Palestine and Israel who are responding to the needs of neighbors and strangers in their midst, no matter their religious beliefs, political views, or nationality. We are called to care for all of God’s children, especially those in war-torn communities, by responding to the urgent needs of those directly affected by the current conflict. Please pray for peace and safe passage for those seeking help and fleeing the ongoing chaos.

More can be learned about PDA's important work here by visiting their website. If you feel called to contribute financially, please do so through PDA's giving portal here. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers for peace!

Schedules for serving in the nursery and with the children's ministry are being made now for the new year.  Volunteers are needed to help support this meaningful ministry as we have welcomed new children into the life of our church family. Copies of "Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes" by Cynthia Campbell are still available in the Narthex for anyone that wishes to read along with David and the church through this year's Holiday Home Tour. All are welcome to discuss each gospel in a group setting during the Wednesday Bible Study or in the Remnant Sunday school class. The Wednesday Bible Study will discuss the Gospel of John on 12/20 at 3:00 pm and the Remnant Sunday school class will discuss the Gospels of Luke and John on 12/24 at 11 am.

It's that time of year for the Christmas Joy Special Offering! Your gift supports current and retired church leaders and helps to develop new leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges serving communities of color. To give, use the offering envelope provided or give online. Please also let Sarah know to credit your gift to the offering.

Are you interested in serving during Sunday worship? A worship volunteer training is scheduled on Sunday, January 14 after Sunday School at noon for anyone interested in serving as a liturgist, usher, or communion preparer. Lunch will be provided for all those who attend. Please let David know you're interested in serving.

As 2023 comes to a close, we continue to prepare for Christ’s coming by generously giving of our tithes and offering. Thank you for your continued support of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and for the ministry you help to offer. Please make sure any final contributions are postmarked by December 31 to be included in this year's final giving statement. Please contact Sarah Johnson if you have any questions about your giving or to set up a pledge for 2024.
