direct effect awards round two is open

CHFA’s Direct Effect Awards recognize Colorado nonprofit organizations whose missions align with CHFA’s work to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. Round One awards were announced in August, and CHFA donated $942,000 to 85 nonprofits throughout the state.

As of September 1st, CHFA is accepting applications for Round Two. The application period will end on Friday, September 29th. Award winners will be selected based on the organization’s track record of success, the proposal, and how the award funds will be used. Round Two winners will be notified in December.

proposition 123 concessionary debt program

On September 18th, CHFA will begin accepting applications for the Concessionary Debt program established by Proposition 123. The program provides loans to eligible for-profit, nonprofit, and governmental entities to support affordable housing investment throughout the state. Details are available on the Colorado Affordable Housing Financing Fund website, including the recording and slides from a webinar held last week that discussed program details and the application process.

Questions related to the program may be submitted to concessionarydebt@chfainfo.com.

hispanic heritage month begins september 15th

CHFA recognizes and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated in the United States each year from September 15th to October 15th in recognition of the rich history, culture, and contributions of the American Latino community. This month-long period coincides with several important dates, including the national independence days of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile, and Belize.

In 2020, CHFA launched Mi Hogar (Spanish for “my home”), a Spanish language homeownership website that guides visitors through the homebuying process. The project began after hearing from the Latino community that additional educational resources were needed for Spanish-speaking Colorado homebuyers, and to help bridge the homeownership gap in the Latino community across Colorado.

In 2022, statewide data indicated that Colorado’s population was 13% Hispanic or Latino. That same year, 42% of households supported with a CHFA home loan identified as Hispanic or Latino.*
