new home loan and down payment assistance program announced

CHFA is proud to announce a new program to support Coloradans who have not previously owned a home, and whose parents or guardians were not homeowners. CHFA FirstGenerationsm and FirstGeneration Plussm offer up to $25,000 in down payment assistance and a fixed-rate 30-year home mortgage loan to eligible borrowers. The program also serves those raised in the foster care system who have not previously owned a home. Program details including a list of CHFA Participating Lenders are available on the CHFA website via the link below.

CHFA is committed to increasing Black and African American homeownership in Colorado through its Own Your Tomorrow initiative. Join CHFA and industry experts on Saturday, July 20th, at 11:00am at Pikes Peak Library 21c in Colorado Springs to learn how homeownership can create generational wealth, how to build a homebuying team, and how to access down payment assistance programs.

 

The homebuyer event will include opportunities for one-on-one meetings with experts, and opportunities to ask questions about the homebuying journey. Follow the link below to register for this free event.

statewide outreach events kick off this month

Throughout the summer, CHFA will partner with Housing Colorado, the Division of Housing, and the Office of Economic Development and International Trade to host seven stakeholder outreach events in communities across the state, plus a virtual engagement opportunity. The first event will be held Monday, July 15th, in Limon, and a complete list of engagement events is available on the Housing Colorado website.


These events will cover a variety of topics, and each will include interactive panel discussions with the opportunity to address questions, challenges, and needs specific to local communities. Events are free and lunch will be provided, but space will be limited at in-person events. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance. small-scale housing technical assistance pre-application deadline

CHFA’s Small-scale Housing Technical Assistance (SHIP-TA) program supports the development of affordable housing projects of 25 units or less by providing access to a pro-bono affordable housing consultant and predevelopment grants. CHFA is accepting pre-applications to participate in the SHIP-TA summer/fall cohort from now through August 9, 2024.


Prospective applicants are encouraged to reach out to their local CHFA Community Relationship Manager, each of whom are available to answer questions about the program and the pre-application process.

Small-scale Technical Assistance

reminder: qualified allocation plan (qap) public hearings

CHFA held the first of three public hearings regarding the 2025-2026 Housing Tax Credit Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) on Wednesday, June 26th, at its offices in Denver and additional opportunities for comment and feedback are provided below.

 

The QAP is published every two years and describes the process for allocation of Housing Tax Credits. CHFA is currently seeking input and public comment from interested parties for the 2025-2026 QAP before approval by the Governor of Colorado and final publication. The first draft of the 2025-2026 QAP and a summary of changes are available on the CHFA website, and opportunities to provide input are listed below.


  • Wednesday, July 3rd from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at CHFA’s Western Slope office at 348 Main Street, Grand Junction, Colorado 81505
  • Wednesday, August 14th from 10:00am to 11:00am virtually via Zoom – please visit https://url.chfainfo.com/qap-public-hearing to register. 


If you are unable to attend any of these hearings, written comments will be accepted through Friday, August 30, 2024, and should be submitted at: https://url.chfainfo.com/QAP-comments.

2025-2026 QAP Public Hearings

university of denver launches executive certificate in affordable housing program

Beginning this fall, University of Denver (DU) will offer an executive certificate in affordable housing through its Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management and Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute.


Applications for the 2024-2025 program are due July 31st, and need-based scholarships are available. The program is designed for professionals currently working in affordable housing as well as professionals looking to reskill to support a transition into the industry.
