chfa celebrates 50 years of strengthening colorado

This year, CHFA is celebrating 50 years of strengthening Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. Since 1974, CHFA has had the privilege to collaborate with valuable partners, innovators, and changemakers to build stronger communities through investments to support homeownership, business growth, affordable rental housing development, and mission-aligned nonprofits.

Throughout 2024, CHFA will reflect on the many partners and collaborators that made this work possible, while also looking ahead toward investing in a stronger Colorado where everyone will have the opportunity for housing stability and economic prosperity.

introducing kaylee romero

CHFA welcomes Kaylee A. Romero as its newest Community Relationship Manager (CRM) serving the South Central Colorado region. This region includes Alamosa, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Hinsdale, Lake, Mineral, Rio Grande, and Saguache counties. In her role, Kaylee will support CHFA’s mission to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and economic development.

An Alamosa resident born and raised in the San Luis Valley, Kaylee most recently served as the Project Director for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at Adams State University, where her work centered on supporting migrant seasonal farmworker youth and their families.

She is fluent in Spanish, and is a proud double alumna of Adams State, having earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university.

Meet the CRMs

small-scale housing technical assistance pre-application deadline

CHFA’s Small-scale Housing Technical Assistance program supports the development of affordable housing projects of 30 units or less by providing access to an affordable housing consultant and predevelopment grants. CHFA is accepting pre-applications for the program’s first round from now through February 16, 2024.

Those interested in learning more about the program may view a recording of a webinar hosted by CHFA that explains the program and how to apply. Details are also available on the CHFA website.

Prospective applicants are also encouraged to reach out to their local CHFA Community Relationship Manager, each of whom are available to answer questions about the program and the pre-application process.

call to action: housing tax credit provisions in the 2024 federal tax bill

The latest version of Congress’ proposed 2024 tax bill includes important provisions that will enhance the federal Housing Tax Credit program and support the development of more affordable housing in Colorado. This is good news, but the bill still has several hurdles to clear before it is passed into law, and it must pass before tax filing season begins on January 29. Therefore, your outreach to Colorado’s congressional delegation seeking their support of the bill is very important. The link below includes their contact information, and additional details on this significant piece of legislation.
