March 2024

Principal Message

Families,

This month, we have another opportunity to connect with you through our spring parent-teacher conferences. Teachers have sent out a link to a conference sign-up sheet. If you haven’t received that or are having trouble accessing that sign-up, please reach out to the office and we can help get you scheduled for a conference time. We are excited for this opportunity to connect with you more about your student’s growth this school year.

We are looking forward to spring break this month and the warmer weather that will come with spring. As a reminder, Spring Break for students will begin on Friday, March 22nd, with classes resuming on April 1st.

Winter Fest turned out to be a wonderful highlight this month, even if the weather didn't quite match the season. I'm immensely grateful for our PALM (P.E., Art, Library, Music) team's dedication in putting together such a fun event for our students. A huge shoutout also goes to the parent volunteers whose support made it all possible.

Also this month, we are offering another “Coffee and Conversations” on March 12th at 8:15 at Dunkin’ Donuts. Myself, alongside the principals from Taylor Prairie and Granite Ridge school want to provide this opportunity to listen and connect with you more about your student’s experience at school and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for your continued partnership,

Jesse Starr

SEL/SJ

For the month of March, students will be learning about Women's History Month as a part of our social justice curriculum.

The two SEL topics that will be explored this month are body safety and emotional triggers:

  • Body safety is a part of our child protective unit. Within this unit students will learn about the six "Protect Yourself Rules".
  •  Tell a Grown-Up
  • Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch
  • Stranger Safety
  • Doesn't Matter Who It Is
  • Shout, Run, Tell
  • Emotional triggers help kids to understand what is making them feel big feelings, and how to navigate those feelings when they arise. Being able to identify their own personal triggers is a very important component to their social emotional development.
