DONOR SPOTLIGHT

When students return on January 4th their creativity will be taken to new heights thanks to our friends at The Iowa Clinic. Through the Festival of Trees program, staff at the Iowa Clinic sponsored a tree in honor of CFUM Haven Afterschool Academic Enrichment Program. Included in their donation 2,900 foam pom-pom balls, 1,000 pipe cleaners, 576 pieces of drawing papers, 192 crayons, 180 containers of paint, 177 paintbrushes and much more!

We can't wait to see what our students create with this generous gift from The Iowa Clinic.

The Haven Afterschool Program

During culture week, 4th & 5th graders learned about and tried their hand at creating Buddhist Mandalas! They drew their designs and intentionally filled them in with different colors of sand. At the end of the activity everyone had to erase their creations but could keep the sand, as is traditional with this type of meticulous art used to remind us of life’s beauty and impermanence!

Winter Week also proved to be very creative with Snowball Sculptures, Personalized Ornaments, and Cookie Decorating among other activities. Participants used watercolors to create fun customized Holiday Cards for a local Assisted Living facility!

CFUM was celebrated at a recent Iowa Wolves game after 92% of the students at Haven completed the Read to Achieve Program, which required 500 minutes of reading outside of class. Each student received four tickets to an Iowa Wolves game in honor of their accomplishment. A great time was had by all, including ALPHA!

Supper Club

Come rain, shine, sleet or snow, CFUM Supper Club continues to serve the community grab-and-go meals Monday thru Friday. We are currently seeing 125-150 meals given out each evening.

In 2022 we facilitated serving approximately 25,000 meals.

CFUM is also a food rescue location that receives weekly donations from Panera, HyVee and Target. We place the donations outside of our location for our neighbors to take what they need. Breaking down barriers to food is a mission for us and we are always looking for ways to bring nourishment to the neighborhood.

In 2022 we facilitated giving away approximately 2,500 pounds of food.

If you or your group are interested in volunteering with or donating a meal to Supper Club please contact Jacob Nastruz at jacob@cfum.org.
