Turning the Hype into ROI
There is a lot of buzz these days about "big data" and its potential to transform businesses and lives. This talk will describe big data in layman's terms, how businesses can discover and exploit opportunities from big data, and the journey between discovery and measurable ROI. We'll learn that though "X" rarely marks the spot, and maps rarely have direct paths to the treasure, the potential is real.
- Why is everybody talking about it - can it really be that powerful?
- What is involved in getting an actual return on investment?

Jed Summerton is an analytics consultant and former Vice President of Enterprise Data and Analytics for DaVita HealthCare Partners, Inc. He specializes in leveraging broad-based data sets to improve patient lives and lower costs. Prior to joining DaVita, Jed was a senior practitioner of business intelligence and health-care analytics and served all segments of the health-care industry including carriers, providers,manufacturers, pharma and Connect for Health Colorado.
Jed serves as a faculty member and best-practices judge for The Data Warehousing Institute and he teaches master's-level business analytics in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, where he also chairs the advisory board for the department of Business Information and Analytics.

Jim Wachholz is a Managing Director with over 20 years of commercial real estate experience. He has a broad range of experience including strategic planning for individual requirements and portfolios, lease renewals, restructures and relocations, building purchases and sales, and build-to-suits for lease and purchase.
