SPEAKING FROM THE HEART

A CONVERSATION ABOUT DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS

Introducing our latest video!

Family Ambassador Laura McGowan is a parent representative for the group Strategies for Children. This statewide community action group advocates for the needs of young children in the state of Massachusetts. Laura has been working with the group on the MA Act Early Campaign which has a goal of spreading the word about the importance of early screening. Laura encouraged our agency Self Help CFCE to participate in the initiative during the Week of the Young Child (April 6th-April 12th).

Our Family Ambassadors decided a great way to spread the word was to make this video! It will be a feature video on our web page for the month of April and added to our Speaking from the Heart page which includes resources to help support your family’s development. Self Help Inc/CFCE specialists will be bringing out information about Early Screening to all their programs during the Week of the Young Child.

Self Help Inc/CFCE offers families a screening tool via their ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE program. Ask your favorite specialist or contact Michele Davidson at 508-559-1666 Ext. 1810 or email Michele at mdavidson@selfhelpinc.org

How a parent becomes an advocate for families

Laura McGowan was a floral designer. She grew up in the industry, watching her family do this work. And as part of a small family business, McGowan herself provided floral services for individual customers and corporate clients. She arranged flowers, and she promoted her floral work on social media.
