The All of Us Science Communications team selected the publication, “Neuropsychiatric
complications and associated management in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors: An All of Us study,” published November 2023 in Cancer Medicine because of its public health impact and demonstrable use of All of Us participant data to drive health discoveries.

Call for Cancer Research Proposals
The UCI Cancer Research Institute is pleased to announce that funds are available through the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant. This institutional grant will fund several proposals for one year at a level up to $60,000 per award. All eligible faculty from each school at the University of California, Irvine are encouraged to apply, so long as the proposal has a clear link to some aspect of cancer research. The purpose of the seed grants is to provide pilot funds for research in both basic and clinical cancer-related problems. Learn more about eligibility and application instructions.

Experimental Tissue Shared Resource (ETR) Offers Custom Tissue Microarray and Brightfield Whole Slides Scanning
The ETR is excited to discuss your project’s study design and tissue needs. We can now create custom tissue microarrays (TMA) with tissue you provide or human tissue remnants and scan whole histology slides at 40X. Selection of optimal representative tissue regions can be performed by our pathologist.
We can provide histology support for special transcriptomics platforms supported by GTH Share Resource

Researchers build first reference map for harmful DNA
A team led by Wei Li (above left, with co-corresponding authors Ya Cui, Wenbin Ye and Jason Sheng Li) has built the first genetic reference maps for short lengths of DNA that are repeated multiple times and are known to cause more than 50 lethal human diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Huntington’s disease and multiple cancers.

Dr. Alexandre Chan Given Basic and Clinical Research Literature Award from Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA)
He was recognized for the research that was presented in the article “Substance Use Among Young Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer With Cognitive Impairment: An Analysis of the Project Forward Cohort.” The research was a collaborative study with Dr. Joel Milam of the Program in Public Health and student pharmacist Ding Quan (Quinton) Ng, as well as Anamara Ritt-Olson, David R. Freyer, Kimberly A. Miller, and Stefanie M. Thomas.
