CFA’s October Board of Directors meeting, October 1-2, was conducted via ZOOM. This provided an opportunity for cat fanciers around the world to watch all the open session items being discussed. The participants and viewers exceeded 50 individuals. These Zoom meetings provide an opportunity for more fanciers to view in real time the CFA Board, Central Office, and committee members at work.
The first report contained a review of the changes to the judging program. I encourage anyone who may be interested in becoming a CFA judge to reach out to members of the judging committee to discuss the new opportunities.
Also, there have been changes to show rules that will be important for those fanciers who exhibit at shows, and for show producing clubs to understand. Those changes will be published as required.
Well, “Team CFA”, if you participated in the CFA Townhall on October 11, you heard and saw first-hand the CFA rebrand reveal. Although we heard many positive comments about the new brand and logo. Unfortunately, we also heard some negative comments. The Marketing Committee is reviewing and considering your valuable input, both good and bad. We appreciate your passion for CFA and how we represent ourselves to the world.
Don’t forget to support our clubs by attending shows. Clubs work very hard to provide these opportunities to show your beautiful cats, to make new friends, and to connect with old friends.
Goblins, ghosts, and treats are just around the corner! Here’s wishing everyone a safe and a “as spooky as you like it” Halloween!

Pet Night on Capitol Hill
CFA Legislative Committee
story by Susan Cook Henry
| |
After a 2-year hiatus, Pet Night on Capitol Hill was held at the Rayburn Congressional Office Building on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. CFA was a sponsor as it has been since the event’s inception 26 years ago. This year saw attendance by Members of Congress, their spouses, and staff members, along with representatives of the USDA, industry leaders in veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, animal nutrition, and other pet care-related organizations. During the day, George Eigenhauser spearheaded our visits to Congress and was one of nearly 100 individuals who attended various meetings that day with representatives from almost half of the U.S. states. For Pet Night, the CFA booth was run by Kathy Calhoun, Susan Cook Henry, Melanie Morgan, and the real star of the evening – a cream Persian named “Jamie.” No doubt he wowed the crowds, and endeared many with his laid-back personality. Despite being admired and handled by so many fans while looking at a sea of phone cameras, Jamie kept his cool and was genuinely intrigued by the surroundings! CFA’s team was active in engaging sponsors who showed interest in working relationships with CFA and its marketing/branding efforts. Look for more photos and details of this event in the next issue of Cat Talk magazine.

What’s Coming Up:
EveryCat Health Foundation is excited to be attending the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA October 27th thru the 31st. If you’re attending, stop by and see us at Booth #218 and look for the EveryCat-sponsored educations sessions.
Cures4Cats 2022
EveryCat Health Foundation’s 2022 Cures4Cats appeal will coincide with Giving Tuesday on November 29th, 2022. This year’s focus will be on Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is a deadly, complex and challenging disease. EveryCat Health Foundation’s generous donors have enabled dedicated research leading to successful antiviral treatments. This is an amazing, life-saving accomplishment - but there is still so much to learn.
Keep an eye on our up-coming social media and newsletters for more information about this event and mark your calendars for Giving Tuesday, November 29th! Make a tax-deductible donation to the EveryCat 2022 Cures4Cats fund.
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc. has generously kicked off our fundraising effort with an initial $20,000 match, so each donation will stretch farther.
Tax Tips with George Eigenhauser
While there are many reasons people may choose to donate to charity there may also be tax benefits for taxpayers who itemize their deductions. Increases in the standard deduction amounts could affect your decision whether to itemize your deductions, including charitable contributions. This in turn may also affect the timing of your charitable contributions. For 2022 taxes, the standard deduction will be $12,950.00 for individual taxpayers (single or married filing separately), $25,900.00 for married couples filing jointly, and $19,400.00 for those filing as head of household. You may find that your total itemized deductions for 2022 will be below your standard deduction. If so, you could choose to “bunch” your deductions (both charitable and other itemized deductions) into 2022. For example, if you make your planned 2023 charitable contributions by the end of 2022 you may obtain a larger tax benefit than if you made the contributions over two years. Please consult your tax professional or financial advisor to determine if this strategy is right for you.

GLR Fund Raiser Show – October 8-9, 2022
written by Staci Taylor
We had a spooktacular time at the Great Lakes Region Fundraiser Show in Mansfield, Ohio this weekend, October 8-9, 2022! This date is usually when the International is held, but unfortunately was could not be held this year, so thanks to GLR for stepping it up so we could still enjoy a wonderful show! The show hall, as always provided a ton of space for everyone. We had some great vendors selling tons of cat toys, delicious home cooked food and a wonderful raffle table! We had a massive gate and all of the spectators got to enjoy seeing all the beautiful cats and loved watching the cat costume contest that was held both days! We are always so thankful to have Larry Johnson there to take his amazing photos! The count may not have been high, but there was no shortage of amazing cats, and it made the entire atmosphere very cozy and inclusive. So many people rooting each other on and laughing and supporting one another. A huge shout out to Nannette Schindler and George Henderson for all their hard work helping with the gate and the raffle table, as well as the numerous other tasks they took on. And thank you as well to all the others who helped make this show successful. Thank you to the judges; Kathy Calhoun, Bethany Colilla, Melanie Morgan, Teresa Sweeney, Diana Doernberg, Anne Mathis, Annette Wilson and Sharon Powell for handling our babies with such care. Last but not least, to the exhibitors. We all know times are tough right now, but without you guys entering and showing up, our region would be lost. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your entries and your continued support for both CFA and to the Great lakes Region! Let's continue to be a untied front and show up and support our CFA family!

The Twin City Cat Fanciers hosted “Only in Minnesota,” their 89th show, in Minneapolis-St Paul, Minnesota on September 26-27, advertising the show as family fun for all.
“We had large attendance both days: for the kids, we presented a stuffed animal contest and of course, we gave away CFA coloring books. We had exhibitors attend from coast to coast. There were breed booths and Pet Me cats which are always a hit. Also on hand were twenty vendors selling things we didn't know we needed,” reported Diane Wagner, show manager.
| | |
|
The club did not forget its exhibitors in all the planned fun. At check-in, exhibitors were greeted with goodie bags packed with cat food samples, kitty toys and water. Lunch was a great affair, featuring a popular local food truck. “We had a huge raffle table with drawings on both days … there were fabulous gift baskets and wide array of wonderful donations,” enthused Diane.

TCCF is a busy and growing club whose shows work together with a local no-kill shelter, and a percentage of the gate income is donated to the shelter. The club is “so lucky to have a large membership who work well together. We have several new, young members who are full of enthusiasm and new ideas.”

Kenny Currle - Regional Director
Much of Hurricane Ian's impact in the US was in the Southern Region, affecting our exhibitors and residents alike with its devastation. The region has donated $1000 to BAP, earmarked for hurricane relief
That's My Point CC held its show on October 15-16 in Tampa, FL and everyone had a great time. I held a regional meeting on Sunday. Topics included: thanking Cat Club of the Palm Beaches for producing a wonderful regional show and awards banquet last June; soliciting opinions from our exhibitors about CFA's new logo. I noted that CFA is club-based, and that I would be willing to bring clubs' concerns to the board. My request to our regional exhibitors is to provide me with opinions on CFA's logo: do you like it, do you prefer the old one, or perhaps a combination of elements of both. I assured clubs of complete confidentiality. If you want to send your thoughts, email me at kenny.currle2@gmail.com.
Jacqui Bennett held a 50/50 raffle on the CFA logo baseball hat seen at the reveal, and raised $288. Pete Deal was the winner of the raffle and donated his winnings back to the region. That money will also be donated to Hurricane Ian relief.

CFA Region 9 Europe held its awards banquet 17 September in Hasselt, Belgium. Thanks to the arrangements by the Felinus International, we had wonderful facilities, yummy food, and an outstanding presentation by Doerte Haendel. This was the first time we had no awards break and our rosettes were just outstanding. Everyone was so happy (and emotional) to see (and hug) our dear friends and Tier 1 Guest Judges Olga Grebneva and Olga Korotonozhkina, plus Yanina Vanwonterghem’s daughter and grandchildren, all from Ukraine. Our spirit is strong!

Thailand
John Webster reports that the show licensed by the Sawasdee Cat club in Bangkok on September 17, 2022 was very successful with a full entry of 125. The unusual thing about this show was that it was actually organized by members of the Thai Smile Cat Club, while they were waiting for consideration at the CFA Board meeting on October 1-2, (where they were accepted for membership by unanimous vote of the CFA Board). The attached photo shows Judges Fuiyau Yap, John Webster, Wilson Ng, Allan Raymond & Chloe Chung plus several proud members of the organizing team.
