You are invited to join CEILS this week on Zoom in spaces designed to support instructors during this difficult time. Together we will help you identify and implement course adaptations for the quarter.

We acknowledge the emotional toll on instructors as you navigate your own responses to ongoing events while also striving to support students academic success in your courses. We invite you to join us for community discussions where we will help you brainstorm changes you might make to your course assignments, sections, and/or class sessions to support student learning and well being during the remainder of the quarter.



During these discussions we will listen to your concerns, brainstorm ideas together, and provide strategies that can be implemented easily without adding a lot of preparation time to your workload (and possibly save you time).


CEILS will be providing virtual spaces over Zoom on the following dates:


  • May 7: Tuesday (tomorrow) 3-4 pm
  • May 8: Wednesday 1-2 pm
  • May 9: Thursday 1-2 pm

Resource: Teaching Strategies to Support Academic Continuity During Challenging Times


This teaching guide, which was developed through a collaborative effort by UCLA’s teaching support community, provides resources to help instructors proactively and thoughtfully extend support to our students during times of crisis and trauma while also reminding us of our own humanity and the need to process current events and attend to our own well-being. The guide offers concrete strategies to help instructors establish and sustain an inclusive learning community, integrate compassion and accessibility into course design in achieving academic continuity, foster productive critical discourse, and respond with care if boundaries are crossed or if students are misinformed about events or behave in ways that are harmful to others or that violate UCLA’s Principles of Community or Student Conduct Code.

Postponed/Cancelled CEILS Events

  • This week's CEILS Education Research Talk on Generative AI is postponed until May 23rd.
  • This week's Learning Community for Early Career Faculty in the Sciences is cancelled (next meeting will be June 6), however instructors are invited and encouraged to join the above discussion on teaching adaptations that is now scheduled during that time.
