Evidence2Practice: Leveraging implementation science to recruit HBCU/MSI students into careers in HIV research
The Duke CFAR CDEIPI program Evidence2Practice (E2P): Leveraging implementation science to recruit HBCU/MSI students into careers in HIV research, is led by Nwora Lance Okeke, MD, MPH, and colleagues in collaboration with Benedict College, South University, Claflin University, Voorhees College and Morris College. Amy Corneli, PhD, MPH, leads the evaluation of E2P.
Evidence2Practice is an intensive on-campus 3-day workshops with interactive and student-centered lectures focused on HIV prevention and implementation science. The goal of this program is to increase undergraduate and graduate student's interest in careers in HIV sciences. This program builds from the Bringing PrEP to Campus program in 2018 which aimed to increase HIV prevention awareness at HBCUs. Following the workshops, students created a 1-page action plan for each campus on HIV prevention including enhancing awareness and uptake of PrEP. Currently, E2P has conducted workshops at three campuses (South University, Benedict College, Voorhees) and plans to host three more in the fall semester (Claflin University, South Carolina State, Morris College). The program is evaluated using pre- and post-program surveys with all participants and in-depth interviews with a random sample of participants.
