In The Eye Of The Storm: Real-Time Strategies For State and Local Governments to Speed Hurricane Recovery & Achieve Fiscal Resiliency
Through hands-on experience, CohnReznick's Disaster Response and Recovery Advisory team has seen how natural disasters can distress or destroy communities. These types of events also impact agency leaders and emergency management professionals who question whether they could have done more to help their communities prepare for, and recover from, the disaster.
There are many strategies that can be employed before, during, and after a hurricane to optimize disaster funding, which are crucial to achieving fiscal resiliency and helping communities fully recover. However, just as the Disaster Recovery Reform Act puts a greater emphasis on pre-disaster mitigation, we also recommend the same for financial recovery. The more you can get your funding processes in order before a disaster, the quicker and more effectively you will be able to administer disaster relief funding. There is no substitute for being prepared.
CohnReznick's Disaster Response and Recovery Advisory team has provided a timeline of tips that highlight critical, often-neglected steps to demonstrate "fiscal resiliency," or the ability to help communities recover from the financial hardships of a disaster.

Jet fuel tax increase could impact airline employees, passengers and industry
The unions that represent nearly 73,000 employees of United Airlines - Airline Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; United Airlines Master Executive Council Association of Flight Attendants - CWA; United Master Executive Council Air Line Pilots Association; International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers - District Lodge 141; and the Professional Airline Flight Control Association -- strongly oppose any legislation that would increase the effective tax rate on jet fuel in New Jersey. Increasing this tax will put good-paying jobs at risk, negatively impact passengers and the commercial aviation industry in New Jersey as well as our union members working in the region, and make our state less competitive.
Commercial aviation is a major driver of New Jersey's economy, supporting nearly 150,000 jobs and $22 billion in economic activity. The total cost to operate at Newark airport, when you factor in taxes, facility rates/charges and landing fees, is already the most expensive in the country. Higher taxes on jet fuel would significantly drive up costs for airlines and their business/leisure passengers in the state, potentially leading to less travel and trade flowing through New Jersey. This proposal will make New Jersey less competitive and will cause airlines to grow and hire more workers in other states, like New York, which would have a lower jet fuel tax under this scenario.Simply put, increasing the jet fuel tax will put good paying aviation jobs at risk, and these are the kind of jobs we need now more than ever in New Jersey.
United's employees depend on a robust and growing aviation industry and oppose state legislation that would make it more challenging to support good-paying, high-skilled jobs at and around Newark airport.

Rutgers-Camden Spanish for Health Professions Program Wins National Nursing Award
At Rutgers University-Camden, a new model for preparing nurses to reduce inequality in health care delivery has won a a 2018 American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Innovations in Professional Nursing Education Award.

The Rutgers University-Camden program earned the AACN award
recognizing the outstanding work of member schools to re-envision traditional models for nursing education and lead programmatic change. "Health professionals must be able to serve diverse communities," says Donna Nickitas

Ørsted announces its acquisition of Deepwater Wind has been finalized
Ørsted made an agreement with the D.E. Shaw group to acquire 100% of the equity in Deepwater Wind at a purchase price of USD 510 million. All conditions to close have been satisfied, including review of the transaction by US authorities.
The new combined organization-Ørsted US Offshore Wind-will be able to deliver clean energy to every coastal state in the densely-populated east coast corridor between Massachusetts and Virginia. Seven states in that region have already committed to build more than 10GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
The new company launches as the clear leader in the US market, with the most comprehensive geographic coverage and the largest pipeline of development capacity, totaling over 8GW.

When selecting a health plan for your small business there are several factors that should be taken into account. Price is naturally the first consideration, but comparing the cost to buy versus the cost to use your plan is really the key.
In some instances, monthly premiums may be affordable, but can be cancelled out by high deductibles or other fees like co-pays and co-insurance, which can add up quickly. Understanding the out-of-pocket costs associated with a plan's pharmacy benefit can pay off in the long run too.
