New Jersey Bill Requires "Good Faith" Identity Theft
Determinations By Debt Collectors

Legislation that has recently been introduced in New Jersey (S1344) addresses the responsibilities of debt collectors upon notice of a consumer's identity theft or misidentification. Originally introduced in 2014, it was recently passed by the New Jersey Senate. The bill requires, among other things, that debt collectors limit or, in some instances cease, debt collection against identity theft victims.
Specifically, this bill allows consumers 45 days from the date that they are first contacted by a debt collector to send written notice that they are the victims of identity theft or misidentification. George D. Sowa joined Brandywine Realty Trust on April 13, 1998. Prior to joining the company, Sowa was employed by Keating Development Company, a real estate development firm, from 1997 to 1998, as a development manager.
Sowa was also employed by Linpro/LCOR, Incorporated as Director of Development/Operations from 1989 to 1997.
Sowa serves on the National Board of NAIOP as well as being immediate past president and board member of the New Jersey Chapter of NAIOP. Sowa is also a member of NAREIT and is on the board of the Evergreens.
Sowa holds a real estate broker's license in New Jersey and a real estate sales license in Pennsylvania and earned a B.S. from Cornell University.
