Routine testing for HIV is important because it can help to detect the virus at an early stage, when it is most treatable, and can help to prevent the transmission of HIV to others. The CDC estimates there are approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States. Approximately 13% of these individuals are unaware that they are HIV-positive.
