CCCIA is Experiencing "The Luck of the Irish!"
I was once told that March is the beginning of many things new and this March appears to be following that trend. We have Baseball Spring Training, Daylight Savings Time, the Beginning of Spring and the start of the Easter Celebrations to name a few.

The CCCIA is extremely happy to add to the March list of beginnings. The March Dinner Meeting on Thursday March 12 th will feature the Cape Coral Economic Development Manager “Ricardo Noguera”. As we are all aware construction is everywhere in Cape Coral. We approached Ricardo several months ago regarding his input for this meeting and asked that he share what he is seeing in the future for our great City. This is not a meeting you will want to miss!!!!!

In keeping with luck of the Irish we may see the long-awaited agreed conclusion regarding the Sea Wall Standards discussions after two years, add to that the more recent 60/40 Impervious Standards quickly coming to a possible close. These have not been easy tasks to overcome, however with the collaborative efforts of CCCIA Executive Director “Bill Johnson Jr” and the Cape City Staff setting meetings for discussions with the stake holders we are almost there.

We realize that St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 th however in keeping with the spirit of the day a little pre-green might be a nice touch for this Dinner Meeting.

CCCIA Industry Update
As we finish up the 1st quarter of 2020, I just wanted to reach out and update the membership on what the CCCIA is working for on your behalf.

We have several issues that we have various stakeholders groups engaged with the City on.

* Our Seawall task force is working with the City on finalizing new Site Specific Engineering Standards along with a raised cap height to help contractors with higher elevation homes. We had a successful meeting with Staff and Council on February 24th and we should wrap this issue up soon.

* Our Code Committee has been looking at the newly adopted Land Development Code and one of the primary issues is the 60/40 rule. Our Committee has met with Staff and we are reviewing ways we can keep our contractors under the 60% without driving up costs of the home. This meeting is taking place this month and we will have an update to share soon.

* We have made headway in the PUE issue and what is allowed in it. After meetings with the City & Council member Gunter, We feel we will have a resolution to this issue that will benefit both the Industry & the City.

* Our Building Industry Oversight Committee continues to work with staff on issues we see, levels of service and Building Fund Reserves.

There will always be situations where the CCCIA will be your voice. It is the our mission, along with our volunteer member committees, to work for you to resolve these issues and accomplish common sense building codes and changes that effect us all. of us. I will be giving regular updates via our newsletter & emails on issues that we face as an industry.

Crime Prevention at Construction Sites
. The Commerce Department stated in December 2019 that the construction of new homes in the U.S. was at a 13 year high (Market Watch, January 2020). Lee County has seen an increase in permits pulled for all types of housing. This means construction sites are abundant in both residential and commercial areas.
Please see below for link for the New Land Development Code.

The City of Cape Coral Adopted a new Land Development code in August of 2019
