Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (continued....)

As promised, this month we continue to educate you on the therapeutic modality of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) by introducing you to some of the most common cognitive distortions, or "thinking traps" that can perpetuate mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.

Check out part two of this three part series from our MFS therapist, Jaclyn Rink, MSCP, LLP. This month we identify 3 more distorted thought patterns, and next month we discuss empirically supported steps for how to fight them off! Ever heard of the tendency to engage in "All or Nothing Thinking"? Read more below!

Food For Thought

A new monthly newsletter addition from our Dietitian and Eating Disorder Recovery Team.

Who's In Your Support System?

The new year can be an exciting time for some, but for others, it can create a lot of anxiety. This time of year is often when you hear people saying “new year, new me!” and making many lifestyle changes. While it’s not a bad thing to want to make changes to improve your life, often times these goals can be tied to aspects of diet culture, such as starting a crash diet or a super rigorous workout regimen.

Hearing these things can be difficult for those who are recovering from an eating disorder or struggling with eating/body image issues. During these tough times, it’s important to rely on the people who support you best: family, friends, partners, and loved ones who make you feel empowered and help challenge any thoughts related to food/body image. It’s also important to reflect on your support system and recognize anyone who may be unintentionally feeding into diet culture messages and not giving you the support that you need during this time. Who's on your team that supports you best?

  • If relying on your support system or even finding a support system that works for you is something you are struggling with, you can contact our office to book an appointment with our multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Treatment Team. We have immediate availability in person and virtually and we work with individuals of all ages and genders.

Staff Spotlight

When coming in as a new patient at MFS, Isabelle is your first point of contact as our Intake Specialist.

You will typically see Isabelle at our Plymouth office, but occasionally you will find her in Brighton on Fridays! Isabelle is here to answer any questions you may have about setting up that first initial appointment. She is so grateful for the opportunity to be the person to guide families through the intake process and cares deeply about connecting each new patient with the best possible clinician who will fit their needs. Isabelle also serves as our full-time office assistant providing support to our office behind the scenes, as well as scheduling all neuropsychological evaluations (for new and current patients!).

Outside of the office, Isabelle graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology. In her free time, she finds joy in spending quality time with her boyfriend, Mason, and 3 cats (Maximus, Luna, and Eevee). She is also an avid reader and loves binge watching her favorite TV shows. Some of her must-watch shows are Ted Lasso, Grey's Anatomy, and Parks and Recreation. Along with that, she loves listening to music, baking, and watching football with her family!
