The Cholent Club is Back!

After a hiatus of a few years, we are glad to announce the return of the Cholent Club. During the winter months, we like to offer a special warm treat at kiddush and our many contributors help to make it happen. If you would like to become a Cholent Club contributor, please click here. The suggested donation is $54, but we will accept smaller and larger donations.

Our first Cholent kiddush will be this Shabbat - January 13th - and is sponsored by Miriam Abrams-Stark and Marvin Stark.

Nahme Bar Mitzvah - The congregation is invited to a luncheon in honor of Eli Nahme's Bar Mitzvah on Parashat Yitro, Saturday, February 3rd (invitation below). If you plan to stay for the Kiddush Luncheon, please RSVP to Brauna Doidge at braunadoidge@gmail.com or by text at (508) 808 3205.

Thank you!

Climate Pledge - As new members of Adamah’s Jewish Climate Coalition, CBS is joining Jewish organizations around the country to make a pledge to reduce our climate impact.

The Eco Committee considered the congregation’s input from our eco Shabbat as we drafted our first Climate Action Plan. The congregation’s top priority was eliminating our use of single-use plastics, which is our primary goal for this coming year. In addition, we have collaborated with the Alliance to introduce composting building-wide. Members were also interested in increasing access to sustainably and ethically raised meat, which we are currently working on. Lastly, we are working to improve the sustainability of all food served at CBS functions.

We welcome your input and help! If you’d like to be involved with the Climate Coalition or join the Eco Committee, feel free to reach out to Elisheva Stark. Lastly, click here for more information about Adamah and the Jewish Climate Coalition.

Thank you to our Eco Committee (Tiferet Rose, Glenn Sherman, Adam Cable, and Elisheva Stark) for getting this work started!

Classes This Week - Classes will resume this week!

Judy's Kindness Kitchen: One of the premier charitable programs run out of CBS, we're looking to get the community much more involved. Every week, hundreds of meals are prepared for those experiencing homelessness at the JCC, where they are then delivered and served at Crossroads RI.

There are plenty of open volunteer slots for food preparation on Sunday mornings at 8:00 a.m. (until about 9:00) at the JCC. We have an online sign-up list. For more information or any questions, email jkk.cbs@gmail.org

CBS Security Update

We are seeking volunteers to be greeters at the door. This role combines warm welcomes, screening, and surveillance. Training will be provided - anyone can do this!

SIGN UP HERE

Additionally, here are some immediate recommendations from the Alliance security team:

1. You may notice increased police presence around Jewish institutions - please thank them for their support.

2. Upon entering the building, please promptly move upstairs, keeping the area by the doors clear. Please do not linger by the doors, and please instruct children that the area by the doors needs to be ‘off limits’.

3. There are other elements being implemented that won't be discussed for security reasons - if you have specific ideas, please volunteer and ask questions during training.

4. See something, say something! Cliché, yet effective.

May we see a quick and lasting return to peace in our world.
