Rex S. Hime Remembered

The family of Rex S. Hime, CBPA Founding CEO and President Emeritus, hosted a memorial service in his honor yesterday, March 16th, at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Sacramento. Hundreds gathered to pay their respects, with guests encouraged to avoid wearing black to honor his life, legacy, and love of Hawaiian shirts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CA State Fair Scholarship Fund.

Government Affairs Update

With the legislative deadline behind us, your staff in Sacramento continues to build and refine its list of bills impacting our industry. Of the 2,632 bills introduced, CPBA initially identified over 300 bills of interest, with that number likely to grow. We are currently collecting feedback from our members and prioritizing interests. If you'd like to engage in the process, you can participate in CBPA's industrywide legislative meeting on March 24th. To attend, please RSVP to Crystal Whitfield at

Legislation Spotlight

Assembly Bill 1000 (Reyes) - Warehouse Ban

AB 1000, introduced by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) will be amended next week to include language that will be a de facto ban on warehouse and logistics projects in many parts of California. The language will include restrictions on buildings over 100k square feet from being built within 1,000 feet of a "sensitive" receptor. This bill further complicates existing supply chain challenges and kills jobs in the Inland Empire region without any actual environmental benefit. AB 1000 will be a key piece of legislation this session due to the negative impacts it will have not just on the commercial real estate industry, but on the state of California.
