That multi-talented Flying Nun once said that "Life was like a box of chocolates... you never know what you are going to get". The same holds true in the world of rescue; each time we save another, it is discovered that they are oh...so sweet.
Etta came to CBHR as an abused, scared little girl that had only spent her four short years of life in a crate with the sole purpose of breeding puppies. Neither social interaction nor love was given to her in her past life.
CBHR worked with trained professionals so that Etta could learn that there was kindness out there and that she mattered. For the first few weeks of Etta's life in CBHR she was deathly afraid of foster dad and pretty much anything else. She was lucky to have her foster brother, Jack, as her security blanket. All of us at CBHR cheered the day we heard the news she finally got to the point of trusting foster dad enough to gently take sliced turkey from his hands. Her foster family cried with joy watching her turn that remarkable corner.
Just when Etta began to make great strides in the love and trust department her health took a turn for the worse. She tore a ligament in her knee and was treated. She then developed glaucoma in her eye. We thought that she may lose that eye, but after trying different medications a cocktail was found that worked. CBHR is thankful for the multiple volunteers that travelled all over town to find her medication at a reduced cost.
Just when we believed that Etta had successfully cleared her medical hurdles, she had a cancer scare. A routine pre-operative blood test (she needed a teeth cleaning) revealed that her white cell levels were elevated. After consultation with a specialist, the prognosis was optimistic. However, Etta is once again facing some medical challenges. She has now developed pneumonia and is struggling for breath. She is currently in the hospital fighting hard to overcome this illness.
Etta needs some angels on her side and CBHR needs some assistance in paying her rising medical expenses. Our commitment to help her, and the many others out there is strong, but we need your help in order to continue doing so.
CBHR is fighting hard to give this young lady a chance at a life that she has never had. Can you help her get to that life?
Please consider being an angel to Etta and the other bassets that need assistance.
