Inspiration from the frozen north

Susan Wefald, herself a former public service commissioner, has compiled a book of the stories of the women elected statewide in North Dakota, from the first - Laura Eisenhuth, who became the first woman in the nation elected statewide when she won the post of superintendent of public instruction - to the women currently holding office. Important Voices; North Dakota's Women Elected State Officials Share Their Stories 1893-2013 introduces us to 17 interesting women; it could also inspire women in other states to undertake similar projects.

If you're in NJ on February 12, come hear Professor Kelly Dittmar talk about her new book, Navigating Gendered Terrain: Stereotypes and Strategy in Political Campaigns. Details here; books will be available for sale and autographing.
