With this chapter, we are looking to address the following questions:
- How do different disciplines work together in the clinical arena?
- Is there a body of knowledge with regard to BScN students (for example) being preceptored by a different discipline?
- How could these types of placements/preceptorships be set up, and what are the pedagogical frameworks used to support such an interdisciplinary placement?
For more information or to express interest, please contact Arin Klein at aklein@casn.ca.

Building Nursing Leadership Education to Support
Academic–Practice Partnerships
Ce webinaire est offert en anglais seulement.
Date: Wednesday, May 8, 2024
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT
Positive student–instructor relationships are key for student engagement, motivation, and achievement. COVID-19, individual lifestyle changes, economic constraints, and advanced technologies have enabled students to learn at home, and increased class sizes have placed significant pressures on these relationships. This webinar and panel presentation explores the challenges and opportunities of the student–instructor relationship in the context of nursing leadership education and various learning modalities. The focus will be on learning more about who the current leadership student is, and the pressures student nurses face to strengthen the student–instructor relationship to enhance student engagement in the classroom. In addition, the nurse manager perspective will highlight the transition experiences of graduate nurses and workforce integration. Panel speakers will be faculty/instructors, nurse managers, and undergraduate students.

Student Peer Mentorship in
Prelicensure Nursing Programs:
A Scoping Review (en anglais seulement)
Avanthay Strus et al.
A scoping review was undertaken to inform the development of a peer mentoring program in the nursing faculty of an official-language francophone minority post-secondary institution in Western Canada. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with mentorship coordinators in seven undergraduate nursing programs across Canada. The scoping review revealed that, in general, the mentoring program reduced mentees’ stress and anxiety, that they felt guided and supported, and that they experienced a sense of well-being in the presence of their mentors. The semi-structured interviews corroborate these findings.

Mise à l’essai d’un nouveau modèle de supervision
de stage en sciences infirmières : l’unité

kā-wīci-pimohtēmāt (a person who walks with others on their journey) is a group of Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, and Inuit) nurses whose goal is to educate, collaborate, and enable all Saskatchewan nurses to work together to address the current health disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and to facilitate a platform for direct communication between the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) and the Indigenous nurses in this province.
Our goals are to:

- Identify objectives that contribute to CRNS strategic endpoints.
-
Facilitate the integration of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action #18-24.
- Review expert literature and policies related to Indigenous peoples.

Nursing the Future continues to support new graduate nurse and supporter needs through our NTFLive sessions, a wide-reaching seminar series in which issues at the forefront of nursing are presented by experts, with a solutions-focused approach. Recently, we have begun to explore workplace safety for new graduates and their supporters. Our latest seminar featured Victoria Schmid, CEO of SWITCH BC and Dr. Kimberly Ritchie, Graduate Program Director Trent/Fleming School of Nursing, joined by Madison Hanson, 2SLGBTQIA+ Caucus Chair and Alisha D'Souza, New Graduate Advocate for the Canadian Nursing Students Association. This important conversation addressed the challenges faced by newly graduated nurses navigating the stress of fitting into the culture of their workplaces. The seminar explored what can be done to support new graduate integration into the workforce and how environments could be fostered where nurses are enabled to create workplaces that embrace and welcome progressive change. It was a fantastic seminar for both new graduates and their supporters, view it here! For future sessions, follow our social media accounts to stay connected and get your tickets!
Additionally, CASN’s own fantastic work of the National Nurse Residency Program was highlighted on our website, with Karyn Unrau, Territorial Manager of Clinical Education in the Northwest Territories sharing her incredible experience of partnering with CASN to deliver the Nurse Residency Program, see it here!
