September 2020
Our CARMA Team is excited to welcome over 100 universities world-wide to our Institutional Premium and Basic Membership Programs. We have a great line-up of events scheduled, and we will be updating you monthly via our CARMA Messenger. Please note several important changes you will benefit from in the upcoming year:

1. We now make available live, individual viewing of our CARMA Webcast Lectures for faculty and students at all premium member schools. Individual advance registration is required, and our first event is October 2, so reserve your spot now (see information below). Recordings of the lectures will be available in the Video Library for premium and basic members.

2. We now offer Topic Interest Groups (TIG) for members. Our TIGs will meet regularly, also with live individual access for premium members that requires advance registration. These meetings will include tutorials, panel sessions, ask-the-experts sessions, and other instructional activities. Topics to be covered include structural equation modeling, multilevel analysis, qualitative methods, advanced regression techniques, with others currently being planned. Our first TIG meeting is October 9, so reserve your spot now (see information below). Recordings of the Topic Interest Groups will be available in the Video Library for premium and basic members.

3. Our Short Courses will be offered live and on-line next year, with sessions being planned for November and January, as well as late spring and summer. Members can attend any session regardless of their location, and a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative courses will be available (see information below).

4. We have made several important changes to our website that we hope will improve your user experience (carma@ttu.edu).

We welcome your feedback about our new and traditional programs, please let us know how we can better serve your needs related to research methods education. Good luck with all you are doing, be safe, and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.

Upcoming CARMA Events in October
Oct. 2 - Webcast Lecture by Dr. Stanton
Oct. 9 - Topic Interest Group Meeting (Structural Equation Methods)
Oct. 21 - Webcast Lecture by Dr. Kreiner
Oct. 30 - Topic Interest Group Meeting (Multilevel Analysis)
Webcast Lecture:
Fri Oct 2, 12:00 - 1:30 ET
Null and Equivalence Hypothesis Testing

Dr. Jeff Stanton from Syracuse University will present CARMA's first Webcast Lecture of 2020-21 academic year. Advanced registration through the CARMA Website is required. (see instructions below)

Abstract
Everyone Talks About the Null, But Almost Nobody Does Anything About It! Testing and rejecting the null hypothesis is a routine part of quantitative research, but relatively few organizational researchers prepare for confirming the null or, similarly, testing a hypothesis of equivalence (e.g., that two group means are practically identical)...
Topic Interest Groups:
Fri. October 9, 12:00-1:30 pm ET
Structural Equation Methods

Tutorial: Testing Moderation with SEM - Dr. Robert Vandenberg, University of Georgia

Panel Session:

Reliability with CFA - Dr. Jose Cortina, Virginia Commonwealth University

Longitudinal Analysis - Dr. Betty Zhou, University of Minnesota

SEM and Experimental Data - Dr. Heiko Breitsohl, University of Klagenfurt

Ask the Expert Session and Reception

Webcast Lecture:
Wed Oct 21, 12:00 - 1:30 ET
Reflexivity in Research Methods: Boundary Theory and the Researcher Role Continuum

Dr. Glen Kreiner from University of Utah will present CARMA's second Webcast Lecture of 2020-21 academic year. Advanced registration through the CARMA Website is required. (see instructions below)

Abstract
Calls have been made for many years that we as scholars be more reflexive in our research methods, namely, that we thoughtfully consider how who we are affects our research...
Individual live viewing for Premium Members (all faculty and students) using Zoom Webinar is now available. Advanced registration through the CARMA Website is required. The registration deadline for Dr. Stanton's Webcast Lecture on October 2nd, is September 30th, 5 pm ET and Dr. Kreiner's Webcast Lecture on October 21th, is October 19th, 5 pm ET.

  • Once you login, in the middle, you will see an option to "Purchase Subscription/Make Reservation".
  • Select the appropriate event and checkout.
  • You will receive an e-mail with the access information a few days before the event day.
Topic: Structural Equation Methods
Fri. October 9, 12:00-1:30 pm ET
CARMA membership will include a new benefit for participating faculty and students, the option to join one or more newly created Topic Interest Groups (TIG). Each TIG will meet virtually three times a year and those registered may attend events for all groups. TIGs are established to meet student and faculty researchers’ needs not currently met by CARMA’s Webcast Lecture Series (and its recordings in the CARMA Video Library) and CARMA Live Online Short Courses. Advanced registration through the CARMA Website is required. The registration deadline for the TIG on October 9th is two hours before the start time of the live event.
Registration Instructions:

  • Login to your CARMA account.
  • Once you login, in the middle, you will see an option to "Purchase Subscription/Make Reservation".
  • Select the appropriate TIG event and checkout.
  • You will receive an e-mail about the access information before the event day.

CARMA Short Courses are now offered live and on-line through the CARMA Virtual Global Classroom using Zoom. A total of 36 courses were offered last year targeting global regional areas of North America, Australia, South America, Europe, and Asia. For 2020-21, an expanded set of Live Online Short Courses will be offered.
CARMA's next set of Live Online Short Courses is in November. Dr. Glen Kreiner from The University of Utah teaches "Doing Grounded Theory Research" in Session I (Nov. 9-13) and Dr. Thomas Greckhamer from Louisiana State University offers "Mixed Methods and Qualitative Comparative Analysis" in Session II (Nov. 16-20). Registration is open, members receive a 50% discount, and the early registration discount is available until October 23rd.
