We hope that those who are blessed to fill their plates will help our hungry neighbors fill theirs,

not only today, but throughout the year.

At CARES we have a lot to be grateful for. We hope you do too. Our goal is to make sure our guests have a plate full, so our mission this Thanksgiving is called Grateful Plate Full.

Join our campaign by donating to CARES to help feed the hungry families and individuals in our communities. CARES services Farmington Hills, Farmington, Clarenceville, Southfield, Redford Twp., Livonia, Novi, Northville, and West Bloomfield.

Please consider donating to CARES to ensure that this vital help can continue. Go to www.caresfh.org /donate to make your donation.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful. Please, help us fill a plate. Part of our vision is to build a "Campus of Hope", strong and healthy, where we can take care of each other, beginning with no individual going hungry.

CARES Guests Please Plan Ahead....

CARES will be closed the last two weeks of December for the holidays. We want to be sure all guests receive their December groceries. Volunteers will work with guests to make your December appointments earlier than usual. More details in Nov-Dec Issue of this Newsletter. AND...

Certification is coming. In order to comply with state guiidelines you will be asked to complete a certification form and show proof of address for each person in your household for whom you are collecting food. This must be completed by January, but you can also do it in Nov-Dec. Talk to an Intake worker at the desk when you check in for your groceries.

Families to Families...Building Community

Thank you to another greater Farmington Business helping to grow the Campus of Hope in our comunity!

Greater Farmington is blessed with a number of businesses who are committed to making our community a better place to live and work. None more so than Busch's Fresh Food Markets. "Giving back to our communities is part of our business model," says President Doug Busch, who has been involved with CARES since its beginnings in 2017. Busch was instrumental in setting up the CARES Market and in supporting the Food Pantry and he currently serves on the Board.

"People look at our community, see nice homes and good schools and they don't think there is poverty here. But, there is food insecurity here too and we are doing what we can to help."

One of the ways is Busch's Annual Sharing Our Season--SOS Campaign which helps raise thousands of dollars for the CARES Food Pantry. For 13 days, from November 14-27, Busch's Stores in Farmington Hills and Livonia will be collecting donations to help feed hungry families in our area.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN BE A PART of the SOS Campaign:

Shop Busch's in Farmington Hills and Livonia between Nov 14 and 27 to support CARES and the generous philanthropy of Busch's Fresh Food Market.

What CARES Means to One Family...

When Ray (not his real name) and his family came to MI they were facing financial hardship and didn't know where to turn. They found CARES where they were able to get food, "...and a whole lot more," says Ray. "When you are going through a tough time, when you're not doing too well, you face judgement everywhere. CARES workers never judge you. Everyone is here to help. There are AA meetings, and other services but, the best thing is the people working here. They all make you feel welcome, no matter what your circumstances are."

Ray has referred other families to CARES and he and his family have also provided cleaning services to CARES as a way to say "Thank You" for the hand up.

Thank you to our Trunk or Treat Sponsors!

Volunteer Spotlight

Seth Kelly, CARES volunteer, is a young man on a mission: "To serve his community and to serve God in whatever way he is needed." He has set aside a year to be of service. At CARES that has meant working in the warehouse and on the grounds planting, mulching, and cleaning; helping guests with special needs; and generally assisting staff.

Seth is headed off to Brigham Young University soon to pursue a career in medicine with the goal of becoming a surgeon one day. In the meantime, he says he has "...been inspired by the staff and volunteers at CARES who are committed to helping everyone who comes through the doors. It doesn't matter who you are, but it does matter what you do," he says. "Working here makes me want to be the best person I can be!"
