New National Recruiting Manager

Lt. Col. Michael Daniels of the Mid-Atlantic Region has joined the Marketing and Strategic Communications national volunteer staff as national recruiting manager effective April 1. A 29-year member of CAP, Daniels brings broad experience as a public affairs officer at the squadron, wing, and region levels. Daniels replaces Maj. Michael W. Moore, who served as national recruiting manager starting in March 2020. In January 2023, recruiting and retention responsibilities were realigned, with recruiting becoming a marketing function and retention considered a command responsibility at all levels. Recruiting is now part of the broader marketing effort, which already involves developing key messaging and new marketing material, including advertising campaigns, open house materials, recruiting brochures, and more.

The Retirement of MAC's Bolinger

Randy Bolinger retired from his role as Civil Air Patrol's chief of marketing and strategic communications effective April 19. We appreciate Randy’s countless accomplishments in leading the organization’s marketing and communications program. This includes several initiatives to modernize the brand, including a new logo and an updated mission statement. He also enhanced CAP's internal communications with newsletter creations like “PROPS” and MAC Matters, and he redesigned Civil Air Patrol VOLUNTEER magazine to be more of an external communications tool. Bolinger was a longtime CAP volunteer before joining the NHQ staff in October 2019 and will serve as a volunteer member of the national staff. During the interim, Deputy Chief of Marketing and Strategic Communications Rick Pallister will be leading the MAC team.

The Spring 2024 Flight Edition issue is now available digitally. Multiple articles focus on CAP's aerial missions, and the issue features a removable centerspread poster inspired by the “Balloons, and Gliders, and Drones, Oh My!” story. Also featured is a column by Maj. Gen. Edward D. Phelka chronicling his piloting of the last flight of N9344L the C-172 flown over Ground Zero the day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The vintage aircraft is now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

MAC has made a few adjustments to how information on activities and other content specifically for members is handled as part of CAP's Wing Website Unification project. Several new frequently asked questions will be added to our master FAQs for the project and are included in this update, along with a reminder and links to the directions to make updates to your website(s) in SiteViz, several tutorials, and a short training video from Global Reach.

There is a new link where public affairs officers may request the creation of a gallery to share photos on CAP's photos.cap.gov website. Photos from CAP events nationwide are stored on this site.
