CAMA LAUNCHES TOOLKIT FOR THE EFFECTIVE EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER | |
Having appreciation for the role of the Executive Assistant in local government, the CAMA Board developed a “Toolkit for the Effective Executive Assistant to the Chief Administrative Officer” which was launched during a presentation at the 2023 CAMA Conference at the Deerhurst Resort.
This Toolkit was compiled, produced and authored by Jennifer Goodine, CAMA Executive Director (and former Office Administrator to the CAO and Mayor of the City of Fredericton), with the assistance of a National Committee of local government Executive Assistants that work, or have worked, with CAOs and senior managers from across Canada, from all size municipalities.
The primary audience of this Toolkit is the Executive Assistant to the CAO in local government, which includes existing Executive Assistants with experience in the role, as well as new Executive Assistants with minimal local government experience. There is also a separate CAO Chapter that focuses on how a CAO or senior manager can effectively use their Executive Assistant to improve their own productivity and build a successful partnership.
Please forward this Toolkit to your Executive Assistant and all your administrative staff as the skills highlighted are transferrable. Your senior leadership team can also benefit from reading the CAO Chapter. It is a public document and can be found on the CAMA website.

About the Session:
Across Canada, the public safety 9-1-1 community is facing a critical, pivotal moment in its history. The existing 9-1-1 system was designed in an era of landline telephones and assumes the calls are coming from fixed, known addresses. Today, most emergency calls originate from smartphones and IP devices, often while away from home. As a result, these changes are driving this historic evolution to next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). Timely aggregation of authoritative (local government) GIS data for NG9-1-1 is required to provide high accuracy address location verification, call routing, resource allocation and analysis capabilities. Please join us as Esri Canada’s NG9-1-1 subject matter experts provide an overview of the following:
• NG9-1-1 – What it is and why it matters
• NG9-1-1 Stakeholders
• NG9-1-1 Roles & Responsibilities
• The NENA Data Model
• NG9-1-1 Timeline
• Initial Local Government Authority considerations

THE VALUE OF PUBLIC SERVICE
By Randall Reid, ICMA Southeast Regional Director
With respect and civility, we can answer any question and respond to any challenge our communities face.
We find ourselves today as public sector leaders working in an era of dynamic global economics, stormy political discourse, and facing yet another crisis in confidence in our public institutions. Memories of 9-11 sacrifices of public servants and the countless examples since have faded as we debate the causes of our national afflictions and diminished financial security and face the current rhetoric frequently condemning the public sector. That said, I continue to feel an undiminished pride in working as a professional in local government. Click here to read the full article.
