Transportation Permit Fee Survey


The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is in the process of certifying California’s truck size & weight program


During this process, FHWA and Caltrans are asking for your assistance to evaluate the oversize and/or overweight transportation permit fee schedules of California counties and cities who issue transportation permits.


In addition, FHWA is requesting links to the resources of the regulation, ordinance, statute, etc., for those fee schedules.

$120M ATTAIN Grant Program NOFO

USDOT announced the release of its $120M, 2-year (FY2023-24) NOFO for Advanced Transportation Technology & Innovation (ATTAIN) grants.

ATTAIN Funding Supports


  • Advanced tech to improve emergency evacuation/response
  • Integrated corridor management systems
  • Advanced parking reservation or variable pricing systems
  • Technology that enhances HOV toll lanes or congestion pricing


Applications must be submitted via grants.gov by February 2, 2024!

UAS for Highway Emergency Response

ARC-IT Version 9.2 Webinar

USDOT is hosting a free 90-minute webinar on its Architecture Reference for Cooperative & Integrated Transportation (ARC-IT) v9.2 framework.


Released in September, Version 9.2 is a significant update of the U.S. National ITS Reference Architecture focusing on improvements that support Multimodal Accessible Travel (MAT), Management of Electronic Traffic Regs (METR), and other new concepts and refinements.

FHWA 2023 Lighting Handbook

December 12, 2023, 10am – 12pm PT


FHWA is hosting a  free two-hour webinar to highlight its 2023 Lighting Handbook, supporting the EDC-7 initiative Nighttime Visibility for Safety.


The new handbook offers recommendations for lighting designers and state, city, and town officials concerning the design and application of lighting in ways that improve safety for various roadway lighting applications.


The webinar will also share on-going lighting research that emphasizes some of the more important topics in lighting design.

Big Data for Traffic Incident Management


NCHRP has released "Application of Big Data Approaches for Traffic Incident Management", which applies guidelines presented in Research Report 904 "Leveraging Big Data to Improve Traffic Incident Management" to validate the feasibility and value of the big data approach for Traffic Incident Management (TIM) among transportation and other responder agencies.


Big Data is evolving/maturing rapidly, with attention focused on opportunities for state DOTs in managing their transportation networks. Using Big Data could help transportation officials achieve system reliability and safety goals.


Supplemental to the report are Appendix A – P, which detail findings from traditional and big data sources for the TIM use cases.
