A project of CALC
This project seeks to define how militarism,
racism and climate crisis are interconnected.
The project will document how national security is not rooted in militarism but rather
in the meeting of human needs such as health, education, good jobs,
good infrastructure and a livable climate.

We abhor all violence. We are heartbroken by the killing and maiming of people in the Middle East, whether they are Palestinian, Israeli, or citizens of any other country, particularly innocent children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
We call for an immediate ceasefire and a stop to the killing or injuring or any type of violence to anyone. We demand sending humanitarian aid to the civilians affected, and demand members of Congress not send more military aid. Diplomacy not weapons is needed in the Middle East. Only the weapons manufacturers and oil industry benefit from war. The Military Industrial Congressional Complex has the biggest carbon footprint in the world.

www.cityclubofeugene.org/forum/15th-night-a-community-movement-to-reduce-youth-homelessness
Oregon is one of five states with the highest rate of homeless youth in the country. 1 in 20 students in Lane County experienced homelessness in the 2017/2018 school year, as reported in the 2019 Youth Homeless Needs Assessment for Lane County.
Looking Glass Community Services observed that youth will be more likely to become chronically homeless without intervention by the 15th night on the streets. In 2015, a community movement to end youth homelessness started in Lane County, called 15th Night. At the heart of 15th Night is the Youth Action Council, a group of unhoused, recently housed, or have never been homeless youth, the guiding voice in 15th Night’s work. In 2017, 15th Night developed and initiated the School Mobilization Model (SMM) which piloted at South Eugene High School in the 2017-2018 school year.
Speakers:
Mike Ingman [Principal,Sheldon High School] Mike’s 24-year journey in education has been marked by his commitment to serving students at various levels.
Trista Neuman [Program Coordinator, 15th Night] Trista, a mother of three students who attended Eugene School District 4J schools, gained valuable insight into the needs and challenges of the student population as she assumed various roles in school administration. She worked on the pilot program of the 15th School Mobilization Model. Afterwards, she spearheaded the expansion of the School Mobilization Model across all high schools.
Megan Schultz [Community Coordinator, 15th Night] Megan is a dedicated Oregonian with a profound commitment to community service. Her journey into service began with a particular focus on children entangled in the foster care system. She was executive director at Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lane County for 14 years. To address broader community issues, Megan tackled the problem of youth homelessness in Eugene, culminated in the development of the innovative 15th Night model.

The aim of this event is to celebrate access to justice and highlight the importance of ensuring all individuals, regardless of socio-economic status, cultural heritage, or family composition, have equal opportunities to participate in marriage ceremonies recognized and protected by the law.
In addition, Judges at the Lane County Courthouse are generously volunteering their time to officiate free wedding ceremonies for couples from diverse backgrounds, and who might otherwise face economic hardship or other barriers to accessing this service.
Pre-registered couples wishing to exchange or renew vows will then go with judges for individual wedding ceremonies. Ceremonies will take place in individual courtrooms. After the wedding ceremonies, a cake and beverage reception to toast the couples and their guests will conclude the event, from 3:30-4:00.
If you would like to exchange vows and participate in a wedding ceremony (or renew vows) as part of this celebration please contact Sascha Cosio to sign up at sascha.cosio@gmail.com on or before April 30.
This project is being made possible through collaboration with the Lane County Circuit Court; Lane County Commissioner and Board Chair Laurie Trieger; and The Office of the Lane County Clerk; along with groups from the local legal community and area nonprofit organizations.

Kultura Pilipinas (KP), the University of Oregon’s Philippine Student Organization, was conceived in 1986. The founding group started with the aim of providing Filipino students a sense of community, something that was non-existent before Kultura Pilipinas started.
The group was conceptualized by business major Ruben Zamora, a junior at that time. During his college years at the University of Oregon, Zamora felt an urgent need to develop a group that would foster the needs of his fellow Filipino students: a link to back home. At that time, Filipino students did not have enough resources to cope with daunting challenges associated with living in a foreign country.

Will Falk, writer is a poet, lawyer, and fierce environmental protector.
Will graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School and practiced as a public defender in Kenosha, WI. He left the public defender office to pursue frontline environmental activism. So far, activism has taken him to the Unist’ot’en Camp – an indigenous cultural center and pipeline blockade on unceded Wet’suwet’en territory in so-called British Columbia, Canada, to a construction blockade on Mauna Kea in Hawai’i, to endangered pinyon-juniper forests in the Great Basin, and to Thacker Pass in northern Nevada where Will is trying to stop an open pit lithium mine from destroying a beautiful mountain pass.

Why Should I Report?
While bias incidents and crimes sometimes target specific individuals, they often violate an entire group or community’s sense of safety and belonging.
Graffiti on the wall, fliers, anonymous emails, and language meant to harass individuals convey intolerance that impacts all of us. We want Oregon to be welcoming and inclusive.
You can report to us online any time: https://justice.oregon.gov/crimereporting/hatecrime

Have you experienced or witnessed a hate crime or a bias incident?
A hate crime is a crime motivated in part or whole by bias against another person’s actual or perceived protected class–their race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Examples include racist graffiti, stealing Pride flags, threats using slur words, assaulting someone based on their identity.
A bias incident is a non-criminal hostile expression motivated in part or whole by another person’s actual or perceived protected class, again meaning their race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Examples include hate speech; using a racial, ethnic, or other slurs; displaying hateful symbols or flags; creating racist images/drawings; mocking someone with a disability; or telling or sharing offensive “jokes” about someone’s identity.
Oregon’s Bias Response Hotline is here to listen, support, and help. Our “Report and Support System” is designed to support victims and help track hate crimes and bias incidents. We want to:

Where has Non-Violence Worked?
Follow-Up on Peace Lecture Question
At the Salem Peace Lecture featuring Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis in October, a question was asked about where one could find examples of nonviolence being used effectively for social change in today's world.
In response, I promised to send out a link to "Nonviolence News," a publication edited by novelist/activist Rivera Sun. She assembles 30-50 stories each week about people and groups who are employing nonviolence for social change. You can find (and subscribe to) "Nonviolence News" here: https://nonviolencenews.org.
