Only 38% of the discretionary 2023 federal budget goes to addressing human needs and the climate crisis; 62% goes to militarism (source, NPP, The Warfare State).
| |
|
A project of CALC
This project seeks to define how militarism, racism and climate crisis are interconnected.
The project will document how national security is not rooted in militarism but rather
in the meeting of human needs such as health, education, good jobs,
good infrastructure and a livable climate.

Support Youth Leaders
¡Apoya Unión de Activistas (UdA)!
| |
|
"Those four years taught me about the strength of our communities and the power our voices hold. Unión de Activistas was a safe haven for me."
-- Anahí, UdA graduate
As Anahí’s statement above reflects, Unión de Activistas provides a safe haven for students. Regenerating social connections and backing youth is more important than ever.
Given the increased requests we have been receiving to support students and families, we know this is not enough. A donor has backed UdA with an amazing $10,000 gift! Your generous contribution would allow us to build on this support and expand the hours of the UdA position. Additional staff hours would include professional development and time to coordinate the Radio Juventud Youth Radio Project.
Please use our donation page [www.nfggive.org/donation/93-0691194] to help fund UdA.

Five Actions Oregonians Can Take
to Resist the Anti-Trans Movement
You are probably all-too aware of the assault on LGBTQ2SIA+ rights happening in statehouses across the country right now.
| |
|
The ACLU is tracking 430 anti-trans and anti-queer bills this year—and the vast majority of them specifically target transgender folks’ ability to get the healthcare we need, exist safely in public spaces, or feel affirmed at school.
Fortunately, the seven anti-LGBTQ2SIA+ bills introduced in the Oregon State Legislature do not have a chance of passing this session, thanks to our pro-equality majorities in Salem. In fact, Oregon lawmakers have the chance to instead expand access to gender-affirming care this session.
Here’s how you can support that effort, as well as how you can support trans folks living across the country:
1. Urge your legislators to support Oregon House Bill 2002!
2. Donate to Basic Rights Oregon and the Equality Federation.
3. Send a supportive message to trans youth in the South.
4. Work to support the trans people in your life and community.
5. Remember to vote in your local school board races this May!
Please go to www.basicrights.org/news/fiveactions for more details on these actions.
“Trans lives are beautiful and valid. This should not be a political issue—but unfortunately, it is.”

The Long Tom Watershed lies within the traditional homelands of the Tribes and Bands of the Kalapuyan peoples. Following treaties in the 1850s, the Kalapuya people were dispossessed of and forcibly removed from their Indigenous homeland by the United States government. Today, many descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians. We acknowledge that we are on occupied lands, and express our respect for Kalapuya and all Tribal Nations of Oregon, and the important contributions they continue to make to their communities, including to the stewardship of this watershed.

Actions for Earth and Climate
www.350eugene.org MM www.facebook.com/350EUG
State Legislation
The senate republicans who walked out and delayed legislative action have finally returned to work. The two bills that we have been most interested in supporting are now in theory able to move forward. The House passed HB 3630 with strong bipartisan support. This bill supports the development of clean energy in Oregon. The most important bill HB 3409, was due to have a floor vote yesterday, June 20th. This bill was created to incorporate the many single bills below in an effort to get them all passed as a package before the legislature must adjourn on June 25th. As of this writing, there is no update on this bill package. You can go to Oregon Legislative Information System website and put in HB 3409 for updates [https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/].
That means that NOW is the time to ramp up our advocacy efforts in support of HB 3409. Please use this toolkit* to amplify support for this priority package through social media posts, action alerts, and direct legislator outreach.
