Ed Source Roundtable Adult education: Overlooked and underfunded | |
Adult education classes offer a lifeline for Californians who want to get their high school diploma or GED, acquire training for a career, hone their English skills or study for their citizenship test. These classes can dramatically improve the quality of life for adults — and their children.
But funding for this work is precarious, and adult education is one of the first areas targeted for cuts in tight budget times.
As the state grapples with tighter budgets, join EdSource’s Emma Gallegos and Zaidee Stavely and a panel of experts to examine the unique potential of adult education and talk about what lies ahead.
Zoom July 25, 2024 2:00 PM PST
NOTE: If you are unable to attend the live roundtable, you can still register and we will send you the recording the following day.

CAEP FY 2024-25 Final Allocation
Memo and Schedule
| |
California Adult Education Program (CAEP) State Leadership recently released the CAEP FY 2024-25 Final Allocation Memo and Schedule.
The State Legislature passed the 2024-25 budget bill that provides a $6.9 million Proposition 98 increase to support a 1.07% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for the California Adult Education Program. The CAEP baseline apportionment total for FY 2024-25 is now $653,137,000. The increase in COLA requires consortia and their members to complete an allocation amendment to certify the additional funds by September 1, 2024.
Join the CAEP Office to review the final 2024-25 allocations on July 30, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. In this webinar, a live demonstration will be conducted to show the allocation amendment process in NOVA using the final allocations. For direct funded members, find out how you must complete your allocation amendment which has already been calculated for you. Attend this webinar to gain a better understanding of the allocation amendment process and receive answers to any questions you may have.

The U.S. Department of Education invites you to drive and support student completion of the 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Adult education programs play a crucial role in advancing social mobility within our higher education system. It is essential that we all actively promote FAFSA completion to support first-time attendees, currently enrolled students, and previously enrolled students who have earned some credits but have not yet obtained a credential or degree. Completing a FAFSA can unlock additional resources, making education more accessible and affordable. Completing the FAFSA places affordable postsecondary education within reach for thousands of students.
The US Department of Education is launching a FAFSA Completion Summer Outreach campaign. We hope you will join this initiative! You can use this folder of FAFSA Completion promotional resources. They are calling for a united effort to remind students to complete the FAFSA and reinforce that there is still time to access financial aid for classes this fall.
Adult education programs are key partners in this effort, given the high percentage of Pell-eligible students you serve. Please consider different ways your program could support FAFSA completion to reach current and prospective students this summer:
Conduct FAFSA promotional campaigns and completion events.
Coordinate with local and community-based organizations to host their students. Enlist current students as Summer Peer Mentors who can assist with FAFSA completion and enrollment. Engage in public outreach via social media.
Thank you for considering participating in and promoting a successful Summer FAFSA Outreach campaign.
