BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR 2024

Summer is almost here, which means we are busy preparing for our annual Back to School Fair! Every year our Back to School Fair serves over 650 children by providing them with the supplies and resources they need for the upcoming school year.

Families victimized by abuse and neglect are often impacted by financial hardships, including their ability to purchase new school supplies. This year's fair is on Friday, August 2nd. To prepare our clients for the new school year, we need the help of our generous community to empower those who have experienced life-changing circumstances and equip them with a sense of normalcy with the essential tools to thrive in the Fall. Here's how you can help:

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and at Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County, we understand the importance of mental health. This month, we are asking our community to learn more about mental health and to help spread awareness about this important topic.

Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and self-care can play a significant role in maintaining it. Here are some self-care tips to help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy:

  • Exercise regularly: Aim for 30 minutes of walking daily to boost your mood and improve your health.
  • Eat healthy meals and stay hydrated: A balanced diet and plenty of water can improve your energy and focus throughout the day.
  • Prioritize sleep: Stick to a schedule and reduce blue light exposure from devices before bedtime.
  • Try relaxing activities: Explore meditation, muscle relaxation, or breathing exercises, and engage in low-stress hobbies you enjoy.
  • Set goals and priorities: Learn to say "no" to new tasks if you feel overwhelmed, and appreciate your daily accomplishments.
  • Practice gratitude: Remind yourself daily of things you are grateful for and be specific.
  • Focus on positivity: Identify and challenge negative and unhelpful thoughts.
  • Stay connected: Reach out to friends or family members for emotional support and practical help.

Remember, self-care is different for everyone, so find what works best for you. If you experience severe or distressing symptoms lasting two weeks or more, seek professional help from a qualified mental health professional.
