Getting 1,000 students the tools they need to succeed

I remember as a child getting ready for the start of the school year. A couple of No. 2 pencils and a notebook was all I needed...

Times have changed, and the supply list for students has grown. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the average cost of school supplies for middle school students is $270.76 per child!

Because of our generous donors, we are able to provide 1000 children with backpacks full of needed supplies for free. And not just any supplies - each backpack is packed with items from either a list supplied by the specific school they attend, or customized to their grade level.

No matter the income level of the family or crisis they are in the middle of, the kids go to school with the same supplies as everyone else. This is a huge confidence booster for the students and a critical supplement to family incomes that are already strained. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of these children.

We have several other special programs through the end of the year you can participate in also: coats for kids, holiday food at Thanksgiving, Adopt-a-Family holiday gift program in winter. These youth programs help blunt the impacts of financial insecurity on some of our most vulnerable neighbors - our community's children. Your help brings joy and hope to families in our community.

Demand for CAC's supplemental food program continues to increase

Demand for CAC's food program is up almost 60% since this time last year. So far, we've kept pace, distributing over 400,000 pounds of food since the beginning of the year. Our Mini-Markets provide a supermarket-like shopping experience, providing a choice of fresh produce, meat, dairy, bakery goods, and shelf-stable items. We're on pace to distribute more than 825,000 pounds of food this year to keep food on the table for our neighbors.

Summer Lunches program: keeping kids fed over the summer

We have over 735 children participating in our Summer Lunches program! Each week, we provide key foods like milk, fruit cups, and easy-to-prepare meals, available at any of our three Mini-Market locations on a weekly basis. Kids that usually receive free or reduced lunch at school are covered over the break with our Summer Lunches program. We've distributed around 12,000 additional pounds of food, totaling 16,110 summer meals, to kids in our community so far this summer, and will continue until school starts!

Boosting neighbors onto better financial footing with job search counseling

"I love the process of helping people figure out what their next step is or should be and then assisting towards that goal... I really feel I have found a place where I can both help others and just as important, feel like I have grown in the process."

- Holly, CAC Career Advocate

Career Advocates are a gamechanger in the job search process. These volunteers are professionals in their own fields who give insight into how to find a job for individuals that have great skills, but can't figure out how to step onto a career path. Since the beginning of the year, Career Advocates have helped (or are helping) over 50 jobseekers find a higher-paying job with good benefits and room for growth, forever changing their family's financial health.
