The CAC of Suffolk County supports the health and wellbeing of the children and families of Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. Each month we'll share highlights and updates to help you better understand how you are part of the healing and justice we see every day. 

The CAC in collaboration with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts Children’s Alliance (MACA) hosted the "Celebration of Courage” in the House Members’ Lounge of the Massachusetts State House on April 30, 2024.



In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month and the 10-year anniversary of Now You See―a collection of images of the eyes of survivors and those affected by sexual and physical abuse and exploitation―the event featured remarks from the first survivor featured in the project, legislative leaders and advocates, and a musical performance by a survivor of child abuse.

Recent Highlight

On April 24, Sheelah Gobar (right), the CAC's Support to End Exploitation Now Program Manager, was honored as an Advocate of the Year by the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA). The Victim Rights Awards Ceremony recognizes organizations and individuals for their notable contributions to the victim services community. Sheelah was presented the award by My Life My Choice Co-Executive Director Audrey Morrissey (left).

Throughout her 8-year tenure at the CAC, Sheelah has coordinated the response to more than 600 referrals for high risk and exploited youth. Sheelah also extends her expertise through training and outreach to a broad audience of stakeholders. Congratulations, Sheelah!

Staff Spotlight

Caddy Tootell is the Multidisciplinary Team Program Manager and a Forensic Interviewer and recently celebrated her fifth year with the CAC. In her role, she works predominantly with children who have experienced trauma, supporting both the child and their family in processing the trauma and strengthening family relationships. She conducts forensic interviews tailored to children's age and needs to help them feel safe and comfortable in disclosing abuse. She is passionate, dedicated, and committed to ensuring that the children impacted by abuse or exploitation are not retraumatized. In just five years, she has conducted more than 400 forensic interviews and helped children and families access the resources they need to heal from trauma.
