New "Revenge Porn" Law Passed

The Act to Prevent Abuse and Exploitation, enacted by Governor Maura T. Healey on June 20, 2024, establishes and extends numerous safeguards for survivors, including but not limited to, prohibiting image-based sexual assault (“revenge porn” and/or “computer-generated images” also known as “deepfakes”), increasing the fines for criminal harassment convictions, and including “coercive control” within the definition of “abuse” under Chapter 209A – Massachusetts’s abuse prevention law. The Act to Prevent Abuse and Exploitation also emphasizes and encourages the need for age-appropriate internet safety training throughout all stages of youth.

Recent Highlight

In early July, the CAC's Multi-Disciplinary Team Program Manager, Caddy Tootell, and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Director of Youth Safety & Outreach, Jacquelyn Lamont trained the nearly 40 incoming Boston Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).

Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) often responds to reports of child abuse along with the Police Department. First responders have a duty to gather necessary information while avoiding compromising a potential investigation or retraumatizing the child. During the training, the recruits learned about the dynamics of child abuse, the role of the CAC’s multidisciplinary team, and how to best respond to children who might disclose abuse to them.
