CA COVID Reaches 5.3% Test Positivity Rate

In the last week of May, there was reported a 30% rise in emergency room visits in California. The California test positivity rate has climbed to 5.3% which suggests the new strain may be spreading.

Continue taking necessary precautions such as those noted below.

Fight the Flu & COVID-19 - Get Vaccinated

Flu and COVID-19 are contagious respiratory (lung) infections that can both cause serious illness. Although flu and COVID-19 can circulate year-round, more people tend to get sick with these illnesses in the fall and winter.

The flu and COVID-19 vaccines are updated each year to provide the best protection against new variants. Staying up to date on both vaccinations is a safe and powerful way to help prevent severe illness and hospitalization—you can even get vaccinated for both at the same time.

Everyone 6 months and older should get their updated flu and COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone 65 years or older should also receive an additional dose of the 2023–24 COVID-19 vaccine if it’s been 4 months since their last dose.

Schedule Your Flu Vaccines Today!

Contact a health care provider or schedule your vaccine appointments on My Turn. You can also find vaccine appointments at vaccines.gov or your local pharmacy.

Those having difficulty obtaining vaccines can contact their health care provider or local health department for help finding a place to get immunized. COVID-19 and flu vaccines will continue to be free for most people through their health insurance plans, including Medi-Cal and regular health care providers.

The CDC’s Bridge Access Program will provide COVID-19 vaccines to uninsured and underinsured adults through December 2024. The Vaccine s For Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children (18 and younger) who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay.
