Bee in the Know! Here's the latest Buzz from the Delaware Beaches

Slide into September with the latest Buzz from the Delaware beaches!

Touch of Italy Rehoboth (next to Outlet Liquors) has a new 8000 sf addition called The Chef’s Table. Owner, Bob Ciprietti, told the Rehoboth Foodie that the two-story building will house their bakery and their commissary on the 2nd floor, while the 1st floor will feature a camera-ready demo kitchen to showcase local and international culinary talent. Watch for an upcoming YouTube channel, cooking classes, and more.

Eggcellent of Lewes opened a second location in Rehoboth in the former Fork & Flask space (catty-corner from The Chef’s Table). They offer breakfast and lunch with fun items like the Elvis Sandwich (two pieces of french toast with peanut butter, bananas, bacon), the Morning Margarita, a Crab Swiss & Asparagus Omelette, and Pumpkin Pancakes.

LaBaguette bakery of Dover will open a second location in Lewes (in the former Touch of Italy bakery space in Five Points). They make French breads and pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. They will also be baking all the bread for all of the Touch of Italy locations with an oven that cranks out 600 loaves an hour!

Bodhi Kitchen opened in July, and omgggg, what FUN! The food, the drinks, the ambience – all of it an absolute delight. Handcrafted cocktails are fantastic – highly recommend the Happy Buddha, a gin-based nectar of the gods with a sake foam topping. Standout small plates were the Togarashi Tuna and the edamame dumplings. Shrimp Pad Thai was another favorite, as were the Wok-Fried Green Beans. The new entrance with its Foo Dogs, grassy floor, giant Buddha fountain, and dragon door handle will transport you to a new and magical place. Open seven days for dinner plus Dim Sum Brunch on Sundays. Located at 10 N. 1st Street in Rehoboth.

First Tom Sietsema, the food critic for the Washington Post, gives Drift a rave review, “Drift elevates beach food with stellar seafood and service,” THEN he names it as one of his seven FAVORITE places to eat right now. Wowza! Congrats Drift!

Nectar Juice Bar and Café is opening a second location in downtown Millsboro in the former Blue Water Grill space. Yum!

The newly opened Sirocco restaurant in the Coast hotel in Rehoboth Beach is getting rave reviews from Buzz readers and beyond. Check out this article in Town Square Live which begins with, “A sirocco is a Mediterranean wind from the Sahara that can reach hurricane-level speed. In Rehoboth Beach, however, Sirocco Food & Drink is a breath of fresh air.”

Beach Time Distilling Company, known for its spirits, has added beer to their offerings with the Dog PIrate Brewing Company. Great article in the Cape Gazette about it. Came across a very cool website called Delaware Beer History. It lists FORTY active breweries in Delaware with EIGHT more planned. Yowza!

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company will host its inaugural 86 Hook & Ladder BrewFest Saturday, Sept 9, at the Convention Center, featuring more than a dozen craft breweries, food, music, raffles and giveaways, plus - Atlantic Liquors will be pouring samples of moonshine and bourbon. All proceeds help purchase equipment for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company.

Oh Stanley! The inaugural Mrs. Roper Romp is Saturday, Sept 23, starting at the Rehoboth Beach bandstand. The romp is a costumed bar crawl based on Mrs. Helen Roper, a character on the 1970s TV show, “Three’s Company.” Mrs. Roper was the wisecracking, caftan-wearing wife of landlord Stanley Roper. Following a group photo, the Ropers will romp all over downtown to participating bars and restaurants. Can’t wait!

SipUrban Farmhouse opened in Milton on 105 Federal Street. Kristen Latham (of Suburban Farmhouse fame) used the original Farmhouse recipes, bringing back what we loved (remember Cruffins?!), but adding things like acai bowls and bubble tea. Open seven days!

At last! Revelation Craft Brewing Company/Georgetown will hold its grand opening Sept 7. This Georgetown location is four times larger than the Rehoboth location, which will remain open! Revelation will also have Oktoberfest celebrations on Sept 29 at all three of its locations – Georgetown, Rehoboth and the Beer Garden at Hudson Fields.

Celebrate the 45th Annual Nanticoke Indian Powwow featuring traditional music, dance, Native American crafts and food at Hudson Fields, Sept 9 & 10.

Coco Mango, a popular food truck serving up island-style favorites like shrimp tacos, jerk chicken and pulled pork, has opened a brick and mortar location near the Love Creek Bridge that includes video games and a pool table. The food truck is still operating every Saturday at the Mispillion River Brewing in Milford.

Lots of new events debuting this year including the very first Dewey Treasure Hunt. It’s a real life, 24-hour hunt for $5,000 in coins & cash. The treasure will be hidden in an easily accessible place on public land. It will not be buried. Your team will receive a treasure map & poem on November 4th. If you can solve it, you will find the treasure. Team registration now open.

The Starboard's 12th Annual Dewey Goes Pink registration is now open. This fundraising event (Oct 7) for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition sells out quickly and has raised over a million dollars over the past eleven years.

A friend and I recently took one of Heidi Lowe’s classes on ring making and it was amazeballs. Seriously. So.Much.Fun. Highly recommend.

In the 17 years I’ve been driving around as a Realtor, I can’t tell you how many properties I’ve shown with an alpaca grazing in the next field. Too funny. Four Acres Living in Frankford will host their Alpaca Festival Sep 17 with pony rides, food, music and crafts. Admission is free with a can of food donation for the Food Bank of Delaware.

Rehoboth Concert Band will perform a Concert in the Park to kick off Delaware Peace Week on Saturday, Oct 7 at Presbyterian Park (formerly North Bedford Street Park) 203 N. Bedford Street in Georgetown. This event is free and open to the public.

Preshys, home of the infamous owner (who you either hated or loved), has closed and First State Corn will take the space. Thanks for the news, Rehoboth Foodie. These are the same folks who had the food trailer/truck in the Kmart lot that got excellent reviews.

The Lewes Historical Society invites the public to celebrate All-Hallows-Eve at its outdoor event, Boos & Brews, October 27th. Food by Bethany Blues, drink by Dogfish Head, and entertainment by the Hot Sauce Band. Revelers encouraged to come in costume.

The seventh annual History Book Festival returns to Lewes, Sep 29 – Oct 1 for live events with 23 distinguished authors of historical fiction and nonfiction.

Sept 16 is the Lewes Artists’ Studio Tour with more than a dozen artists opening their studios to the public. Great fun. Did it last year and loved it.

The History Revival: Coastal Chronicles lecture series includes talks on The Lightship Overfalls, the H.M.S. DeBraak, Delaware's Naval Heritage, Sea Shanty History, the Fenwick Island Lighthouse and more. Note: The Fenwick Island Lighthouse had been in operation for only a decade when William Edward Pepper was assigned as keeper in 1869. More than a century later his great-great-great-granddaughter, Winnie Lewes and her daughter, Tracy, will present the history of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse. How cool is that?

The 11th Annual Needlework Exhibition opens Sept 16 at the Rehoboth Beach Museum. More than 80 regional needle artists will be featured with awards in 10 categories, plus Best in Show.

Surf Shack, with locations on the Forgotten Mile, Penny Lane and Ocean City, have opened a women's clothing store, Bernadette's Beach Boutique, also in Penny Lane.

Milford’s largest outdoor event, the 22nd Annual Riverwalk Freedom Festival, takes place Saturday, Sept 16, with entertainment, paddleboats, a beer garden, pet park and parade, car show, kid’s activities, food, music and fireworks too! And don't miss Milford's Ladybug Music Festival, a celebration of women in music, Saturday, Sept 30.

Waves Car Wash (Lewes) will open a second location in Milford.

Dewey’s Golden Jubilee returns Sept 29-30 for a weekend of fun, surf, sand and Golden Retrievers galore! Activities include parading through Rehoboth Friday night, a Saturday beach romp, and nighttime bonfire event.

The Listening Booth, Southern Delaware's newest music venue, has added a monthly comedy night. Next one is Sept 20.

The Sussex County Genealogical Society will kick off their fall season on Saturday, Sept 16, at the Lewes Library and on Zoom. Sunny Jane Morton will present "Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians—Oh My!” Learn a little of their intertwined history and learn strategies for finding church records for Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians.

The owners of Somewhere restaurant have opened Coastal Native on Rehoboth Avenue, a shop offering handmade, local, sustainable art, jewelry and more.

The former Full Belly Bistro/Casa Amici/Kupchick’s space is now Emmanuel’s – open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and pizza. The menu is similar to Fully Belly, but with some new specialties like rancheros, tamales and breakfast burritos, with street tacos and quesadillas on the way.

You can get acai bowls in downtown Rehoboth, Lewes and Dewey, and now on Route 1 too. The 302 Acai food trailer is now open seven days a week (near Touch of Italy) selling acai bowls, smoothies, energy drinks and homemade popsicles.

Wings & Wheels 2023 takes flight October 6th and 7th in Georgetown, beginning with the Night in the Tropics Dinner show, then Saturday’s event day with WWII era aircraft, classic car show, entertainment from Double Agent, parachute jumps, kids’ activities from Precision Paintball and demonstrations by First State Skate.
