The Chamber has been advocating for the businesses of Galt and have finally made headway with both Sacramento County and the City of Galt. The Chamber, along with many other Chambers and PBIDs in Sacramento County, put pressure on County Supervisors to drop the proposed ordinance that would have allowed the County to fine businesses up to $10,000 a day for health code infractions. Instead, the County will continue with an "educational" approach for businesses that may have mistakenly or willingly violated public health codes.
In addition, at Tuesday night's Galt City Council meeting, the Chamber again advocated for our local businesses by petitioning the City Council to go on record that City Officials have no intention of financially penalizing local businesses and will in fact continue with an educational approach.
The Chamber alerted Council Members to the frightening statistics revealed through the Chamber's business survey conducted last month and pleaded for the City to advocate more for our local businesses. Council Members agreed that the city should take a more active roll in advocating to both the County and State on behalf of our businesses and directed staff to draft a letter to County and State officials.
We are fully aware how difficult these times are for all our businesses and community and we wanted you to know that the Chamber Board and staff is indeed working hard to advocate for you.
