National Wellness Month

August is National Wellness Month, a time when attention is given to the importance of self-care and healthy lifestyle routines. This is a time to prioritize your total health - mind, body, and spirit - to increase your overall quality of life. Simple ways to create habits that help you feel your best include:

  • Understanding your stress triggers and finding healthy ways to cope with them
  • Practicing mindfulness meditation
  • Moving around and staying active, even at work
  • Adopting a hobby
  • Getting adequate rest and sleep

Visit the Faculty / Staff Wellness webpage for more wellness resources.

Employee Profile: Darlene Jones

Step into the Campus Services Building, and the first friendly face you’ll encounter is Business Affairs Administrative Assistant Darlene Jones

From greeting employees and guests to organizing and assisting with revamping the new second floor conference rooms, she’s a vital force in Business Affairs.

“When people come in, they have so much on their minds, she said. "A good morning or a smile, helps to take away their stress."

If Darlene could choose a superpower, it would undoubtedly be the ability to anticipate and meet everyone’s needs with precision.

Beyond her administrative duties, Darlene is a curious soul. “I like to try new things, even if it’s just once,” she laughed. Recently, she’s taken up rollerblading, gracefully balancing curiosity with caution as she navigates this new hobby. She’s looking into taking up pickleball next.

Darlene also loves sticking to her cherished routines. She hits the gym three times a week, enjoys spending time at church, and treasures moments with her family. Add in a game of miniature golf, a round of bowling, and relaxing evenings on her newly remodeled patio, and you’ve got a glimpse into Darlene’s life.

Next time you see Darlene, share your favorite hobby with her. You never know – she might just take a swing at it and make it her next big strike.

Maryland Parkway Construction Reminder

The Regional Transit Commission's (RTC) multiphase Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project officially kicked off on August 5. The project will enhance transportation infrastructure along a 12.5-mile stretch that includes Maryland Parkway from Russell Rd. to Carson Ave

Phase 1 includes impacts to the Shadow Lane Campus. Currently, on-street parking is removed at Wellness Way and Shadow Lane. Crews will work between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., with one lane open in each direction both day and night.

Community members can sign-up to receive BRT project updates via email or text message. This is the best way to stay in-the-know about construction timelines and impacts to your commute.

Visit the Maryland Parkway BRT webpage for more information about the major improvements that will enhance mobility, safety, and access along one of our city’s busiest transit routes.

TeamDynamix Project Management Training Resources

Business Affairs, in collaboration with cross-campus teams, recently implemented TeamDynamix as our project and portfolio management software. To help project managers and stakeholders navigate the new system, Administrative Services’ Project Management Organization (PMO) created two videos that are now available:

  • TeamDynamix Overview
  • This video provides a high-level overview of TeamDynamix, its capabilities, and benefits. It is most beneficial for those who are considering utilizing TeamDynamix for project and portfolio management.
  • Finding My Work, Time, and Tasks
  • This training provides step-by-step instructions for performing common tasks in the system. It is most beneficial for project managers and project stakeholders who are currently involved in a project or about to begin one.

Contact Reggie Bailey and Rebecca Paulson if you have questions about these training resources. For questions about TeamDynamix, submit a request for training or support.

Spotlight on Service

Photo of UNLV Campus Values for the Spotlight on Service section of the Business Affairs Bulletin

In October 2023, we distributed our annual Business Affairs customer service survey. Many of our campus colleagues replied to the survey with notes of praise for our hard-working teams. See below for some highlights for the Administration Technology Services team.

“I am especially thankful for the TDX team. This year I became a TDX administrator. Thank you for many patient hours with training and discovery.”

“Good group of people who know project management.”

“I always receive great customer service when I have questions or need assistance.”

Upgrading Your Digital Literacy: Spot the Phish

Are you interested in enhancing your cybersecurity knowledge? Check out the new UNLV "Spot the Phish" Games in REBELearn.

Created by the Office of Information Technology, the course includes five fun interactive games designed to help participants identify potential phishing emails and stay cyber safe. The course is voluntary, self-paced, and available to all employees. It is not scored and has no due date. Individuals can play the games as many times as they choose.

Contact our Business Affairs security liaison Sarath Kraus with any questions.
