Hardwood flooring company celebrates 25 years

Authentic Hardwood Flooring, located at 3040 Amwiler Road, is celebrating 25 years in business this year.

It has been some time since Michael Keroack was an apprentice waiting for permission to run the big sander. He started working for a friend's dad in Hartford, Conn. in the late 1980s and learned the skills necessary to install and finish high-end custom floors.

After hearing about the housing boom in Metro Atlanta, he moved to Georgia in 1995 and worked for a few different companies. He noticed the work he was seeing was not up to the standards to which he had grown accustomed. Keroack set out on his own in 1999 with a $1,500 van and tools from Home Depot. He ran the business out of a warehouse in Lawrenceville, but much of his business was in the Peachtree Corners area. So when a building came available in 2016, he purchased it with Clark Harris, of Innovate Design Build, a remodeler. He has been steadily growing the operation for the past eight years in Peachtree Corners with the help of Buddy Wofford, general sales manager, and Michael Blocker, director of operations (pictured above).

Gateway 85 CID and Peachtree Corners convene to discuss issues

Former Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux, who is now working with Gateway 85 CID, came to Peachtree Corners in February to speak with members of the city's Downtown Development Authority and Redevelopment Authority about projects in Gwinnett County.

One initiative, the use of Flock cameras, has resulted in a 60 percent reduction in crime in the CID. More than 120 license plate reading cameras send an alert to the Gwinnett County Police when a hot-listed vehicle or its registered owner is wanted by police. It alerts officers in the area to the presence of the wanted vehicle or person, enabling them to attempt to make contact.

The CID is also working with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) on a plan to overhaul I-85 and interchanges. There is a comprehensive corridor study under way.
