Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Here is a press release that I sent out to the newspaper.

Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association Free Summer Concert Series Announced and begins on Friday, May 20th.

Each summer, the Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association offers a FREE Summer Concert Series in Schofield Park (Bunker Hill Park) located across the street from Bunker Hill Pharmacy. The concert series is sponsored by the Association via their annual dues, as well as the Waterbury Arts and Tourism Commission.

We are excited to announce this year’s (5) free concerts. We wish our friends and former food truck Dukes’ Delish a happy second retirement after being our food vendor for the last two years. This year we are trying something new, everyone is invited to bring a picnic basket for you, your family, and friends to enjoy. Alcohol is NOT allowed by Waterbury Ordinance. Also, only beverages in plastic bottles will be allowed. We ask that our guests please pick up after themselves and use the trash receptacles located in the park.

As we have done in the past, please bring some non-perishable food items to donate to one of the food pantries.

First in our concert series begins on Friday, May 20th from 6 PM to 8 PM with a returning band, The Dirt Road Pickers, “playing the songs you forgot you loved.” There is no rain date for this concert.

On Friday, June 17th from 6 PM to 8 PM, we have another returning band, Backbeat, who plays a mix of funk, Motown, R&B & soft rock. The rain date for this concert will be the following Friday, June 24th.

Another returning band, The Cutouts will be playing classic rock & rockabilly on Friday, July 15th from 6 PM to 8 PM with a rain date of Friday, July 22nd. This will be a reunion concert for them.

Next, we have a wonderful Beatles Tribute Band called Penny Lane on Friday, July 29th from 6 PM to 8 PM. Unfortunately, no rain date for this show, either.

And, to close out the season, we have the lovely Red Hots Trio performing (a retro set of blues, jazz, swing & rockabilly) on Friday, August 19th from 6 PM to 8 PM. The rain date is the following Friday, August 26th from 6 PM to 8 PM.

In the event of inclement weather, you can call the Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association Events line for updates on that day’s concert by dialing (203) 518-4302. It is a Google Voice phone number, (so) just follow the prompt at the beginning of the call and wait for the outgoing message if no one is available to take your call. The outgoing announcement will be updated with information from noon until 3:30 PM (each concert date).

We are thrilled to bring this FREE concert series to our Bunker Hill Neighbors and all Waterbury residents. Please join us, won’t you?

Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association President Bob DeVito will be relocating with his spouse to North Carolina soon and we welcome our President-Elect, Bob Dorr, who will be taking over the reins upon his departure. Bob DeVito will still be around for the first couple of concerts. Bob would like to thank everyone for their support these past few years as President; too many to mention and I don’t want to leave anyone out. He wishes thanks and good luck to Bob Dorr and the Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association Board.

We hope you enjoy the shows!”

Sincerely,

Bob DeVito

President
