A quick take on the month with Building STEPS
BUILDING STEPS GOES GLOBAL
Fizzics Education podcast featured Building STEPS CEO, Debra Hettleman, who showcased the value of STEM exposure and partnerships to propel college and career success. Based in Australia and with a global reach, Ben Newsom and his team love STEM in all its forms and create universal opportunities for STEM exploration. Building STEPS appreciates this latest partnership. Take a listen!
EXPLORING THE "E" IN STEM
JMT Engineering welcomed Building STEPS high school juniors to their national headquarters for a day of engineering exploration. Their team of experts created interactive sessions on traffic engineering and design, water restoration and analysis, and programmable robotics using block coding. Students were fully immersed and got their “hands wet” with activities and simulations. Wrapping up the day with a networking activity added a professional development touch.
Thanks to JMT for a powerful day of learning!
Engineering exploration at JMT.
Students learned how to automate a programable robot car by using block coding on an iPad followed by a fun, navigation competition.
SPECIAL DAY AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY
There’s nothing like a campus tour on a beautiful day. Building STEPS and Howard University Alum Anthony Watters led the juniors on an informal tour of Howard U, sharing personal insight and anecdotes. A behind the scenes tour of the athletic facility was a big hit! College tours help students visualize themselves on a college campus while creating excitement for the prospect of college life.
THEY SAID "YES TO SUCCESS"!
Recruitment for Building STEPS’ 24th cohort is underway! Who better to explain why Building STEPS and how it works than our current students (and guidance counselors)! Decked out in Building STEPS swag, they created buzz and interest within Baltimore City Public Schools. We can't wait to welcome the newest cohort who said Yes To Success With Building STEPS!
