Time to Purge the Building File
Many of our KEA members will be working with new administrators next year due to boundary changes, sixth grade roll up, and attrition. It’s advisable to check your building file before summer break and remove anything that you don’t wish to be on record. This is especially true if you have a new administrator.
We are hearing that some administrators are pushing back saying all documents must stay in your file for three years. The contract language states that materials may be kept for up to three years. You may remove anything in your building file older than 3 years. The contract also states that “Employees will be notified of all items that will be placed in personnel files and building working folders as confirmed by initialing or electronic confirmation delivery.” If you wish to remove documents that are not initialed or a statement acknowledging your electronic confirmation, you may remove the documents now as this is a contract violation.
Let your office manager know that you would like to look at your building file. If you have any issues, please contact Christie Padilla – cpadilla@washingtonea.org
