CHILD CARE ADVOCATE NEWSLETTER
COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
The future child care center at Greystar’s South Main Mixed-Use project demonstrates the level of community engagement and commitment needed to ensure cities can recover from the COVID-19 public health crisis. We know that the exacerbated child care shortage has left working parents with little choice between challenging arrangements and turning down employment opportunities. Tackling this community issue will require creative solutions from innovative partnerships, such as those evidenced in the Redwood City South Main Mixed-Use project. This Build Up SMC case study highlights the impacts of a child-centered vision supported by community investment and our path to get there.

BIPARTISAN POLICY CENTER
Did you know that high-quality child care programs provide young children with better opportunities for positive growth, however, many child care facilities do not meet basic health and safety standards? An investigation across ten states by the Department of Health and Human Services found that 96% of child care programs receiving CCDF (Child Care and Development Fund) dollars had at least one potentially hazardous condition, such as broken gates and water damage. For more research and reports addressing the challenges and supports in early care and education facility infrastructure click the links below.
