Chat GPT and Math

In this video, 4 high school level questions are given to ChatGPT: one is Algebra I and is very accessible -- the others are higher grade level including a system of equations with three variables, an inverse function of a natural logarithm and finding the fraction for a repeating decimal.

While GPT can type essays that gives English teachers a challenge, Math has had its online helpers for many years including phone apps to answer Math questions, Google docs to share solutions and Chegg to get exact solutions to textbook answers.

This is why I have become more focused on project-based learning and have designed d assignments for each chapter that allows students choice and provides opportunity for independent assignments.

Math til Age 18?

It's pretty exciting to have Math (also known as maths) in the news but Prime Minister Sunak caused an uproar by proposing more Math for students. How many years of high school Math should students have to take?

In the US, most schools districts (including NYC) mandate 4 years of English and Social Studies but only 3 years of Math and Science. That number goes down if students take Algebra I in 8th grade as it counts as a year of high school Math which then means that students only need 2(!) years of high school Math.
