New York - As we continue the celebration of Garifuna Arts & Culture Appreciation MonthThe Garifuna Coalition USA, Inc. a, nonpartisan, nonsectarian 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the   of the Budari Dance Company at the 2014 Bronx Week Parade at Mosholu Parkway South, on Sunday May 18th  , 2014 starting at 11:00 PM. The meeting place is a Mosholu Parkway and Hull Avenue (Take BX 41 to Mosholu Pkwy) 

 

"Bronx Week is where we showcase the Borough's rich history, its institutions, and cultural diversity. This is an exciting time to be in The Bronx, especially this year as we celebrate the last 100 years," said Bronx Tourism Council Executive Director Olga Luz Tirado.

 

New York is home to the largest Garifuna Community outside of Central America, according to unofficial estimates, the Garifuna population exceeds 200,000, live there.

 

The Budari Garifuna Dance Company is led by choreographer Budari Isieni, former member of the world renowned Garifuna Folkloric Ballet of Honduras We invite the Garinagu people of New York City to join us in the parade to promote the Garifuna Heritage and Culture in New York.

 

On May 18th, 2001 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the first time awarded the title of "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangibles Heritage of Humanity," to 19 outstanding cultural spaces of forms of expression from different regions of the world.  The Garifuna Language, Dance and Music were among those declared "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangibles Heritage of Humanity.
